While chipping away at giant bosses with swords and spears is undoubtedly a ton of fun, blasting them with sorceries is even better. If you’re a big fan of magic, you’re in luck because Elden Ring features dozens of amazing sorceries that can help you make short work of your opponents — provided you have the necessary stats to use them, of course.
Elden Ring: How To Find The Hand Ballista
The Hand Ballista is a simple two-handed crossbow you can find early on in your journey. Here’s where to find it in Elden Ring.
Even though it’s not among the very best sorceries in Elden Ring, the Cannon of Haima is a powerful projectile spell with a large area of effect. The Glintstone sorcery can hit enemies through walls and can be charged to inflict additional damage. The Cannon of Haima’s Intelligence requirement isn’t too crazy, but the spell does require a lot of FP to cast.

Where To Find The Cannon Of Haima
The Cannon of Haima can be acquired from the Converted Fringe Tower, but you’ll first need to solve a puzzle before you can bypass the magical barrier found inside. Your first order of business is to gain access to the Raya Lucaria Academy, which is located on the big island in the western part of the map. If you don’t have the Academy Glintstone Key just yet, go to the swamp west of the big island and look for a boss called Glinstone Dragon Smarag. The key that opens the academy gates can be found just behind the boss.
Once you’ve made it inside the academy, you’ll need to keep an eye out for two things: a second Academy Glintstone Key and a Glintstone Crown. The second key can be looted from a corpse hanging from the Church of Cuckoo’s ceiling and is needed to unlock the Erudition gesture. The video above shows you how to get to the corpse, and right after that, you can grab the Glinstone key from the second floor of the church.
Keep in mind that acquiring the second Academy Glintstone Key will first require you to kill The Red Wolf of Radagon, which is a boss inside the Academy of Raya Lucaria. After killing the wolf, you will activate the Debate Parlor Site of Grace at the same location. From here, our hunt for both the Academy Glintstone Key as well as Glintstore Crown begins.
Move out from the northern exit of Debate Parlor and then turn left. You will spot a pile of dirt with a few poor enemies around it. Get on top of the dirt to reach the balcony and continue the way towards the stairs going up on the left side. Ignore the enemies and then turn left after going upstairs, then jump over the railings. Now, you are on another staircase again. Reach the end of it, turn left, and jump over the railings once more. Now that you are on top of the building roofs, move straight as shown in the video above, until you find a ladder. Climb and continue straight to reach the end of the path.
Circle around the tower at the end from its right side and jump over the roof behind the tower. Now turn right and fall down twice towards the roofs ahead. Then turn left and fall down once more. You should spot an enemy with a bow and arrow on the right. Move toward the enemy, but before you reach it, jump down to the left, and you will find yourself on the ledge of a tower. Circle the tower to the right and then jump one last time to the U-shaped roof behind the tower. Now reach the right wing of the roof, and look your left, where you will spot an open window. Get inside through the window and make your way over the wood planks towards the top of the chandelier, where a corpse is hanging. That’s the same corpse we talked about earlier. Jump over the chandelier and collect the Glintstone Key.
Thankfully, the Glitnstone Crown is not far away from here. Look to your right from the chandelier, and you will spot a bridge beneath yourself. Jump down and exit towards the church’s balcony. Turn right and reach the corner of the balcony, where you should spot a tiny frozen crab. If you kill the crab, you can loot the Glintstone Crown.
With the second key now in hand, head over to the Church of Irith and look for Thops. The Church is located on the west side of the Lake-Facing Cliffs Site of Grace, which is the first Lost Grace you discover after exiting Stormveil Castle towards the Liurnia of the Lakes. Thops is next to the statue of the church. Talk to him about the Glintstone Key and then give him the key, and he will teach you the Erudition gesture as a reward. Now, make sure to equip Glintstone Crown as your helmet, and the Erudition gesture as well.
Head over to the northeastern part of Liurnia of the Lakes to find the Converted Fringe Tower overlooking the sea. The tower can be found just east of the Frenzied Flame Village Outskirts Site of Grace. You can reach the tower from The Grand Lift of Dectus Site of Grace as well, but either way, you should pass by the Madness Tower. In the video above, we are not affected by Madness, since we have already killed the tower’s guardians. Since it is a one-off battle, we suggest you take a look here and learn how to get rid of the Madness Tower, though you can still head towards the Converted Fringe Tower by making your way to the entry of Frenzied Flame Village, and resting there for a few minutes until the Madness effect is gone. Then continue from there towards the Converted Fringe Tower, while moving on the edge of the cliffs at the southern part.
Head inside the Converted Fringe Tower and equip one of the Glintstone Helmets. Use the Erudition gesture in front of the magic barrier or the statue to open the way. Make your way to the top to find the Cannon of Haima along with the Gavel of Haima inside a chest.
How To Use The Cannon Of Haima
The Cannon of Haima requires 25 Intelligence to memorize and 57 FP to cast. You won’t be able to lob more than a small handful of these bad boys before you’ll need to reach for a Flask of Cerulean Tears, so try to make every cast count. This sorcery can easily take out small groups of enemies and is particularly potent in PVP when timed properly. Despite being an AoE spell, the Cannon of Haima isn’t too shabby against individual targets either.
It’s important to note that charging the Cannon of Haima increases both its damage and its area of effect — as well as its FP cost. Since the blast deals damage through walls and other obstacles, you can use the spell to hit enemies even if they’re not in your line of sight. Another fun thing to mention is that you can decide the range of the projectile mid-cast. Looking down will cause the projectile to land in front of the player while looking forward or up will lob it far into the distance.
