Next week, Respawn Entertainment will be kicking off a new Collection Event in Apex Legends. The Double Take event will see a new Quads takeover from June 25th until the end of Season 21, which is expected to conclude sometime in early August.
Quads will be taking over from Solos, which returned at the start of this season. While many fans were hoping to see Duos return once more, Respawn has now confirmed that won’t be the case. Instead, players will have the choice of Trios or Quads up until the end of Season 21, leading to disappointment among the community.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Fans Baffled As Last-Gen Rating Appears Online
Fans were beginning to question if the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Jedi: Survivor had been cancelled, but now they’re just questioning why it exists.
“No longer will you have to decide which of your three friends will be in your squad for the Apex Games,” Respawn said in a new blog post. The studio would then go on to state that the loot pool in Quads has been updated “to avoid in-fighting for ammo, attachments, and regen items.” Various Legend abilities have also been updated to take into account the increase in team members.
While that’s all well and good, the community has made it clear that they would have preferred to see Duos return during the current season.
Apex Legends Dev Responds To Fans Angry At Lack Of Duos In Season 21
Whilst talking to our sister site Game Rant, Apex Legends game designer John Larson said that Respawn is aware that players aren’t happy with the lack of Duos in Season 21.
“For those that maybe worried about Duos, I would say don’t fret. We have the game’s best interests in mind too, so while these longer takeovers have been at the expense of Duos, we are learning a bunch,” Larson said.
Larson also explained that Respawn has multiple elements and implications to consider when releasing a limited-time mode or takeover event. As Apex Legends players will be well aware, a takeover means that a current game mode must be removed, whilst a limited-time mode can co-exist alongside existing modes. But with both instances, Respawn must strongly consider how their releases will affect the game’s matchmaking.
