Eccentric videogame visionary Hideo Kojima graced the Tokyo Game Show with a huge presentation for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.

The new trailer reveals new characters with familiar faces and brings back old friends.

The DHV Magellan is steered by doctor and captain Tarman, played by Australian director George Miller of Mad Max fame.

Elle Fanning also makes her video game debut in the role of Tomorrow, a naïve survivor brought from the realm of the dead.

Shioli Kutsuna plays Rainy, an expecting mother hoping to have a healthy child who will grow up to become an adult.

The goofy puppet-looking fellow Sam carries around is the aptly named Dollman, voiced by Turkish-German director Fatih Akin.

The new faces join the classic star-studded cast comprised of Norman Reedus (as Sam Bridges), Léa Seydoux (Fragile), and Nicolas Refn (Heartman).

Heartman deserves a shoutout for his impeccable fashion sense in this trailer, combining his classic suit with an exoskeleton and heart-shaped glasses.

The Best Photo Mode Ever In A Video Game?

What we call “photo mode” normally follows a simple formula. Time stops, you move the floating camera position around, switch between static poses, maybe throw a filter over it and bam, you have a photo capture.

That might look great, but that is a screenshot machine, not an actual photo mode. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will change that. Those who have experience with Polaroid and Instax cameras know the drill.

It goes like this: your friends gather together, strike a dozen dumb poses, and laugh at the silliness of it all.

You hit the shutter button at the most unflattering moment to capture a washed-out, overexposed, flash-bombed picture that has soul.

In Death Stranding 2, characters pose and interact with each other and their environment based on their personality and mood. The result is the closest you can get to a real photo without an analogue camera.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is coming in 2025, and it does not seem like it will be in the first half of the year. Kojima is no stranger to blowing deadlines.

The Tokyo Game Show showcase was running on the PlayStation 5 Pro, and though the console’s price remains ludicrous, it is hard to deny that Death Stranding 2 looked fantastic on it.
