Could a Fallout: New Vegas sequel be in the works from Obsidian? New job listing has raised some questions about what they are working on next.
Highlights
- Obsidian, known for Fallout: New Vegas, is diving into a new RPG project with 20+ years of experience.
- Studio seeks Senior Environment Artist for aesthetically pleasing environments in cross-platform RPG.
- Fans speculate on Fallout: New Vegas sequel or remake, but Obsidian may be focused on other projects.
Obsidian Entertainment, the developer behind the beloved Fallout: New Vegas title, is picking up the reins on a new adventure by delving into a cross-platform RPG project. The company already has the backing of more than 20 years of experience behind it, delivering some of gaming’s most exciting RPG titles, some of which include The Outer Worlds and Pillars of Eternity.
In a new job listing, the studio has created a post for a Senior Environment Artist where they are looking for someone to create “aesthetically pleasing environments for a cross-platform RPG.”

Obsidian Developing a Fallout: New Vegas Sequel Or Remake?
First spotted by Game Rant, the acclaimed studio bought by Microsoft in 2018, has been at the forefront of delivering innovative gaming experiences to players across the world and is now looking to hire a Senior Environmental Artist to undertake “aesthetically pleasing environments” and worldbuilding endeavors using Unreal Engine software. It also states the RPG will be “cross-platform” but this could simply mean the ‘secret’ title could be available on PC and Xbox.
Of course, this news sets a fire under the Fallout fandom, with many thinking that this could mean a Fallout: New Vegas 2 or maybe even a remake since it’s such a popular and much sought-after request. Obsidian Entertainment has been knee-deep in developing Avowed so that it’s ready for release sometime this year, and Startmenu editor-in-chief Lex Luddy told Giant Bomb recently (via The Gamer) that there were “discussions about getting Obsidian on another Fallout game, but that the studio was reluctant and wants to “back away” from larger-scale projects.” so it seems unlikely that this RPG has anything to do with the Fallout franchise.
Since the first Outer Worlds game arrived on multi-platforms, there’s a good chance that this listing may be referring to that as they develop The Outer Worlds 2 for a 2025 release window, or it could be continuing with their beloved Grounded title, which received a warm reception from players and released for PS4, PS5, and Switch. Either way, there’s not too much else to go on for now other than another RPG is in the works.
