After Eric Musselman left Arkansas for USC and John Calipari took over, Khalif Battle entered the transfer portal. It was reported by the Spokesman Review earlier today that the 6’5” shooting guard is planning a visit to Gonzaga’s campus this weekend. He averaged 14.8 PPG on 40.6 FG%/35.3 3PT%/87.3 FT% to go along with 3.3 RPG and 1.3 APG in 24.7 MPG with the Razorbacks this past season.
Battle has played 101 games in his five seasons at Butler, Temple, and Arkansas and only started 32 games. He would be the first one called off the bench by Mark Few with Ryan Nembhard and Nolan Hickman getting the starting nod in the backcourt.
Battle’s one of the best bucket-getters on the market. His three-point marks stand out the most as he shot 35.3 3PT% on 5.1 attempts per game in his collegiate career. If you weren’t aware, Gonzaga ranked 183rd in bench scoring at 18.71 PPG this past season. He would bring that ranking way up and be the favorite for the West Coast Conference Sixth Man of the Year. Battle may have never played in the NCAA Tournament before but this move would put the Zags right near the top as a national title contender.
