Social media has evolved to become a serious career for many and creating content is also a lucrative side hustle for creators who don’t want to commit full time. While the notion of playing video games and recording news and opinion posts for a living is idyllic, there are unseen pressures that also play a part in this vocation that one Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth voice actor recently aired.
Briana White is well known for being the voice of Aerith Gainsborough, the Ancient and party member of Cloud Strife and the gang, in Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its 2024 sequel. White is, therefore, expected to return for the third and final part of Square Enix’s Remake project (possibly in a smaller role) but the actor is also a frequent streamer who has discussed the difficulties involved in that profession.

The pair elevate the narrative into something more nuanced.
Streaming Requires A Constant Technical Dance
Talking at length about Final Fantasy and her personal life during an interview with YouTuber Dan Allen Gaming, White discussed finishing her playthrough of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on stream: “They said the main story for that was only 40ish hours…It took me four months to finish that game.”
Dan Allen revealed White operated similarly to him regarding stream preparation, expressing the need to get into a “rhythm” and admitting “it’s not that easy” when it comes to performing for your viewers. White then reiterated the need to “prepare yourself” and highlighted the overwhelming technical challenges involved:
“Oh absolutely, there’s the mental preparation, there’s the physical preparation, you know, I got to do my hair, I got to do my makeup, I have to make sure all the stream titles are updated, you have to pop out the chat, get all your windows orientated on your screen…it’s a lot…streaming is one of the most technically challenging things I’ve ever done.”
White is no stranger to performing, however, as the actor has starred in several live-action projects outside of video game voice work, including shows Party at Micha’s and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. The actor began live-streaming Let’s Plays back in 2017, after two years of making pre-recorded streams with her sibling, and she began seeing real growth in her community while playing The Last of Us.
Dan Allen let slip that White is a “crier” when it comes to “heavy emotional games” and the YouTuber asked “How are you going to get through Rebirth?” alluding to Aerith’s fate. White responded: “I already know what’s coming, it’s kind of the best and the worst part.”
