Djokovic reveals successful knee surgery following Roland Garros withdrawal

Novak Djokovic revealed Thursday on social media that he underwent successful surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee.

“In the past day, I had to make some tough decisions after sustaining a meniscus tear during my last match. I’m still processing it all but I am happy to update you that the surgery went well,” Djokovic wrote on social media. “I am so appreciative of the team of doctors who have been by my side as well as the overwhelming support I have received from my fans.

“I’m going to do my best to be healthy and fit to return to the court as soon as possible. My love for this sport is strong and the desire to compete at the highest level is what keeps me going. Idemooo”

Djokovic won back-to-back five-setters to reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, but withdrew before playing Casper Ruud due to the injury to his right knee.

The Serbian explained after defeating Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round that he had felt the knee before the tournament, but a slip in the second set exacerbated the issue.

In Djokovic’s social media post Thursday, he was using crutches, but in good spirits. The 37-year-old smiled in a photo alongside his team, with the Eiffel Tower looming in the background.
