VALORANT Latest Tease Is The Exact Promise Overwatch 2 Failed To Deliver On

In the past decade, VALORANT has been the only game that has come close to dethroning Counter-Strike as the ultimate FPS game, but recent changes indicate VALORANT is looking to move into a league of its own.

After giving the perfect multiplayer experience for over four years, VALORANT’s next move seems to be something that Overwatch is no stranger to.

In Unreal Fest Seattle 2024, it was disclosed that the creators of VALORANT are possibly working on bringing players’ ‘playable experiences’.

Crafting a PvE experience for an established multiplayer can prove challenging, but Riot Games seems keen to face this challenge head-on.This is one of the many reasons why Blizzard had to abandon their PvE plan when it came to Overwatch 2, disappointing many fans in return.

One of the few games that has partially managed to pull it off is Fortnite, with the help of their Save the World mode. This includes the exception of recent co-op games with a campaign side to them, like Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2.

It is anybody’s best guess how Riot Games will approach PvE when it comes to VALORANT, making it a mystery worth waiting for until it’s finally revealed to the player base.

VALORANT To Change Game Engines

It was also revealed that VALORANT is primarily switching its core over to Unreal Engine 5, a game engine by Epic Games that has risen in popularity in recent years and has been used by the likes of Black Myth: Wukong and Fortnite.

The primary concern with this change is that if the change is not optimized correctly, a major chunk of the player base with lower-end systems will probably miss out on the game.

Fortunately, this exact concern was addressed in the session, and it was revealed that UE5 provides developers with optimization options better than ever before, even providing support for consoles.

This is ultimately what Riot Games might have wanted, bearing in mind the game’s recent launch on PlayStation and Xbox.
