- XDefiant’s weapon progression pace is causing controversy, with players finding it too slow to level up weapons effectively.
- Even after developer explanations, some players remain skeptical about the time and effort needed to reach maximum weapon levels in the game.
- Some fans are frustrated with the grind necessary to progress in XDefiant, with discrepancies reported between player performance and weapon leveling speed.
Yesterday, Ubisoft finally released its free-to-play first-person shooter, XDefiant. While fans are heaping tons of praise onto the title for its lack of skill-based matchmaking, the community is also criticising the time in which it takes to level up weapons, calling it “slow” and “a waste of time.”
The progression pace of XDefiant’s weapon levelling is receiving mixed reactions from the community, but the majority of players seem to think it takes too long to level up weapons. While some fans think it shouldn’t be compared to the likes of Call of Duty, which naturally has much quicker weapon progression due to new entries being released annually, others say they simply do not have the time to put in such a grind.
Ubisoft Confirms No ‘Pay-To-Win’ Mechanics In XDefiant
An unsurprising yet welcome confirmation from Ubisoft.
Outrage was sparked when an XDefiant fan account reported that it would allegedly take over 100 hours to reach the maximum level on a weapon, but the absurd report was quickly shot down by an XDefiant game developer.
After mocking the fans who calculated the incorrect statistic, the developer explained that players need 3,500 weapon XP for each level. And as each kill grants the player with 100 XP, this means players will need 35 kills per weapon level, but this could be less depending on other gameplay factors, such as the number of assists achieved by the player.
Nevertheless, players still think the progression time is “too slow.” After X (formerly Twitter) user Landon asked the community what they thought of the weapon leveling speed in XDefiant, fans made their voices heard. “Too slow. I had 3-4 matches with 30+ kills, only at level 4,” one user responded. Whilst another said, “IMO it’s very slow, I couldn’t believe I played for 6 hours and barely seen any movement in progression.”
While XDefiant’s developer attempted to clear the air on how long it takes to level up weapons, not everyone was convinced. “I fear this isn’t true. I’ve dropped multiple 30+ games and sometimes my gun doesn’t even level up once,” one user said. Another echoed a similar statement, saying, “This cannot be true. I’ve gotten way more than 35 kills with my vector and haven’t even gotten to level 2.”
In response, the developer said that there may be a bug with tracking, but they are the intended values for primary weapon progression.
