Cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Andru Phillips, and safety Tyler Nubin would all like to have Sunday’s game back.
Fresh off his Week 8 benching, Banks surrendered two touchdowns against Washington, including one right over his shoulder to Terry McLaurin, who proceeded to mock him mercilessly.
Phillips, who has been a stud all year, missed an open-field tackle late in the first half, leading to a 24-yard Commanders gain which was followed by a touchdown leading into halftime. Had Banks made that tackle, the game would have been very different.
Finally, Nubin allowed a 42-yard catch-and-run by Olamide Zaccheaus late in the fourth that ended any chance of a comeback upset. The rookie shouldered the blame and admitted he was overthinking and looking for something underneath.
Although not a rookie, cornerback Cor’Dale Flott also shares in the blame for a poor performance by the secondary.
