Stanford’s super sophomore wide receiver Elic Ayomanor is emerging as one of college football’s top players. He racked up 1,013 receiving yards and six touchdowns as a redshirt freshman and is well on his way to another terrific season, with 234 receiving yards in Stanford’s first three games in 2024.
He played a key role in the Cardinal’s thrilling 26-24 victory over the Syracuse Orange in the team’s inaugural ACC game, highlighted by a spectacular one-handed touchdown reception.
Born in Canada, Ayomanor is one of 80 college football players named to the prestigious Maxwell Award watch list. The award is granted annually to the nation’s best player. He has also been named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, the award for the country’s best receiver.
Ayomanor attended high school in Massachusetts, where he excelled in track and football. He set school and league records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He chose to attend Stanford after receiving scholarship offers from Cal, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
In addition to excelling on the gridiron, Ayomanor thrives in the classroom. Last year, he was named to the Pac-12 Conference Academic Honor Roll and was named first-team Academic All-America.
He is an all-around asset to the Cardinal’s football program. In the offseason, he played a key role in Stanford securing the commitment of four-star wide receiver JonAnthony Hall from Fishers, Ind. After committing to Stanford, Hall told reporters that Ayomanor made a profound impression on him during his recruitment. Noting his integrity and character, Hall stated that Ayomanor shares with him an emphasis on academics.
Stanford quarterback Ashton Daniels has deep confidence in Ayomanor.
“He’s a guy that, no matter where I put the ball I have faith he’s going to go up and catch it,” Daniels told reporters after the Syracuse game, via Dan Lyons of Athlon Sports.
