“I’m a man of few words, but they call me Iglesias the Tornado. Come see me on Thursday night, and you’ll see what I’m made of,” said Iglesias.
This is a rare Thursday night card, but it’s an excellent way for Eye of The Tiger promotions to allow their talented super middleweight contender Osleys Iglesias to be seen by fans without being crowded out by staging his fight on Friday or Saturday night by the other events that are going on that night.
#5 WBC and #7 IBF Iglesias will defend his IBO super middleweight title against Ukraine-born Ivanov. The 26-year-old Cuban Iglesias is a fighter that could be on the path to take over the 168-lb division after Canelo Alvarez retires in the next few years.
Obviously, Canelo isn’t going to allow Iglesias to face him to springboard his career, but he’s going to have to give up one of his belts sooner or later when Iglesias becomes his mandatory.
In the chief support weights. Super middleweight Steven Butler (34-5-1, 28 KOs) weighed in at 165.3, while his opponent Fernando Farias (12-2-2, 3 KOs) came in at 165.5.
Weights
Osleys Iglesias 167 vs. Petro Ivanov 167.2
Steven Butler 165.3 vs. Fernando Farias 165.5
Thomas Chabot 129.5 vs. Jesus Daneff 129.3
Osleys Iglesias has looked outstanding in 2024, beating Marcelo Coceres, Sena Agbeko, and Evgeny Shvedenko. Thursday night’s fight will be Iglesias’ fourth fight this year, which is rare for a top-10 contender in this era of boxing.
It’s important that Iglesias fight frequently to build up his fan base and get pushed up the rankings. The best way to get rated quickly is to stay busy, as we saw with Gennadiy Golovkin when he first started out.
