Highlights
- Sony released a new update for PS5 allowing players to share gaming sessions via URL link.
- New voice command feature “Show Game Help” now available for English players in the US and UK.
- System software performance and stability improved, along with DualSense wireless controller software.
Yesterday, Sony deployed a new system software update for its flagship console, the PlayStation 5. Among some routine stability improvements and new voice command features, the new update now allows for players to invite others to their multiplayer game via a shareable URL link, even if they’re not on their list of PlayStation Network friends.
This new invite feature was first revealed by Sony in a PlayStation blog post back in May, but the studio simply said that the feature would be arriving “in the coming months,” and did not give a specific release date. But if you’ve updated your console to system software version 24.05-09.60.00, which was released on July 23, you can now make use of this handy new feature.

PlayStation Community Hits Back At Sony After Quietly Increasing Game Prices Again
PlayStation owners aren’t too happy with Sony amid yet another gaming price hike.
Whilst you’re in a multiplayer game, all you need to do is press the PlayStation button on your controller and navigate to the activity card labelled ‘Your Game Group’. From here, you’ll be able to select the ‘Share Link’ option and invite whoever you want with a handy URL link. This link can be shared directly through PlayStation’s built-in messaging feature, or through various forms of social media.
“By opening the link, the recipient will be able to hop into your multiplayer session even if they aren’t already friends with you on PlayStation Network,” Sony said in a blog post earlier this year. “If you just met some new friends on your favorite social platform, you can send them a PS5 session invite in the same chat and start playing together right away, without needing to add each other as friends on PS5 first.”
If you’re sharing the link via Discord, PlayStation says it has also designed a unique widget for the platform. Sony says “the widget dynamically refreshes to show the multiplayer session status, so you’ll know if the session is still active before you join.”
As for everything else included in the new PlayStation 5 firmware update, you can check out the patch notes below:
Version: 24.05-09.60.00
- You can invite other players to game sessions by sharing a URL to the session.
- To invite other players, open the game session action card and select Share Link. Then, scan the QR code with your mobile device to share the link.
- This feature is available only for open sessions that anyone can join.
- This feature will gradually be rolled out to all players by July 24.
- Voice Command now supports the ability to open Game Help action cards by saying “Show Game Help”.
- Currently, Voice Command (Preview) is available only in English for players with accounts for PlayStation Network in the US and UK.
- We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
- We’ve updated the device software of some DualSense wireless controllers to improve stability.
- We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
