- Microsoft set to launch its mobile gaming store in July, offering a wide range of games to players across all devices and countries.
- Excitement among Xbox fans turns to disappointment as they express disapproval of the new store, labeling it as a “failure”.
- Recent closure of Tango GameWorks studio for focus on mobile games has left fans skeptical of Microsoft’s new direction in gaming.
Even though it has been in the works for several years, primarily in the wake of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has now bitten the bullet and will launch its mobile gaming store in only a few short months. Xbox’s president, Sarah Bond, unveiled its development at the Bloomberg Technology Summit on Thursday, stating that the store will be “accessible across all devices, all countries, no matter what, independent of the policies of closed ecosystem stores” this July 2024.
In a bid to ramp up its mobile gaming portfolio on the store, Bond shared goals of bringing games like Candy Crush and Minecraft as well as third-party titles. In the wake of this news, Xbox fans are naturally not impressed with Microsoft’s vision and have already deemed the store a resounding “failure”, especially after closing such a beloved studio as Tango GameWorks to focus on mobile games no one seems to want, going by comments.
Hi-Fi Rush Is Being Positively Review Bombed As Fans Protest Tango Gameworks Shutdown
Hi-Fi Rush fans are making their voices heard with a barrage of positive reviews on Steam.
This Isn’t The News People Wanted To Hear
Already seething and confused surrounding the comment by the head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, in a meeting where he suggested that he wanted a game like Hi-Rush after getting rid of the studio that created exactly what he desired, players are now condemning the move and already believe it will be a “huge failure”.
The general consensus on Twitter/X is that this move isn’t needed and that people feel Microsoft shut down several video game studios to focus on an area that isn’t necessary in the current market. With the success of Hi-Fi Rush and the studio wanting to develop a sequel, this seems to be where Xbox fans’ hearts truly lie, not in mobile gaming.
“So ‘glad’ we could lose Tango GameWorks for, mobile games…” stated @Kain3984 in reply to the news under Wario64’s post. “Yeah, this is exactly what Xbox fans want. A fucking mobile store” replied @FuuTop1 as commenter @Epic_Amans says “No one will use it. Average person who plays these games on mobile will wonder where Candy Crush went on the App Store and Play Store”.
Twitter user @OshyMew seemed to encapsulate the vast majority of opinions by stating that it will be another Xbox near-sighted fiasco. “This is going to be such a huge failure. I love how they announced this the day after they closed like 4 of their mobile game studios because they wanted to focus on “bigger titles”.
Given the news that Xbox shut down three popular studios only days ago, leaving many talented and passionate developers unemployed, this report seems to be a bitter pill to swallow for most fans and only time will tell if this latest venture from Microsoft will actually pay off, as all eyes will certainly be on them.
