UFC 307 is headlined by a light heavyweight title bout between champion Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree. It’s a matchup of two lethal strikers that former two-time middleweight champion Israel Adesanya doesn’t think gets out of the second round.
In a video posted to Adesanya’s YouTube channel, “The Last Stylebender” gave his breakdown of the what each fighter brings to the table and predicted who would prevail.
“I’m actually excited about the fight because of what Khalil brings,” Adesanya said. “Khalil is just a chill dude who is violent as f*ck.”
“But he’s fighting Alex, and Alex right now is just on a tear. He’s got momentum, massive momentum. And he’s just seemingly impossible,” Adesanya continued.
Adesanya and Pereira have fought four times, twice in kickboxing and twice in the UFC. Drawing from that experience against “Poatan,” Adesanya had some advice for the challenger.
“Khalil has to just go at him. Can’t be scared. Just press him back. You can. It’s possible,” Adesanya said. “If Khalil is going to win, he’s going to have to win early. But that’s a dumb game plan so don’t listen to me. Don’t try win early because that’s how you get caught as well with Pereira.”
Israel Adesanya predicts second-round finish
“Pereira just has to do what he does, leg kick him, march him down, get him to the fence, start throwing combos. No one’s going to shoot a f*cking takedown in this fight. It’s going to be a kickboxing fight,” Adesanya predicted. “I’m going to go Alex Pereira by second-round finish.”
“I just feel like it’s a hard ask for Khalil, but that’s up to him. It’s his fight to win or lose, but regardless I just think ‘Poatan’ is just on a f*cking tear right now. He’s too good.”
