Baldur’s Gate 3 was the massive breakout hit of 2023 for Larian Studios, with everyone and their mothers playing the epic fantasy RPG. Now it seems as though Larian is cooking up something different that they hope will challenge its biggest game to date as they refocus on their next title.
As the team recently announced they would be moving away from the D&D area that served them so well, Larian’s Swen Vincke is excited about taking a deep dive into their next project.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Didn’t Come Without Challenges
Just before heading off to the Digital Dragons conference in Poland, Baldur’s Gate 3 director Swen Vincke shared in a tweet that the conference would be the last time he talks about BG3’s development. Still, he was eager to “focus on new things.”
While fans have known for some time that Larian wouldn’t be making Baldur’s Gate 4 or the much-requested DLC, they do, however, have two new projects lined up. As outlined on the Steam Community Update page, Vincke said the team had “a few ideas up their sleeves” but it was “still early days”.
“We’ve decided to seize the opportunity to develop our own IPs. We’re currently working on two new projects and we couldn’t be more excited about what the future has in store.”
Although it might not be the news BG3 fans would want and would love nothing more than the studio to continue with the game, or at the least a DLC, Vincke is quietly confident about their next step, “I don’t know if we’re going to pull it off, but looking at our narrative, visual and gameplay plans, I think what we’re working on now will be our best work ever.”
At the Digital Dragons conference, Vincke openly discussed that Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t come without its challenges. Every time a certain aspect of the story changed, the cinematics also needed to be altered, which led to a constant loop of meetings and reviews over the best part of a year. “There was a moment where, literally, when you looked at it, you said, ‘we’re never going to finish this game. It’s going to be impossible to finish it.'” expressed Vincke.
Larian has also opened its seventh studio in the heart of Poland where further development for their next games will no doubt take place. Here’s hoping we hear more news regarding their next games sooner rather than later.
