While not much is on the line in this exhibition game between UNC and Memphis on Tuesday in men’s college basketball, it will give both teams a chance to look at the teams they have assembled, how well they can play together and what they will need to work on this coming season that is right around the corner.

Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway was deliberate this offseason in making sure to have a team that can defend.

While that isn’t necessarily the philosophy of UNC, the team is looking to get better from three-point range this season to make the Tar Heels a threat from all spots on the court.

Guard Tyrese Hunter and big men Tyreek Smith, Dain Dainja and Moussa Cisse are at the forefront of Memphis’ defensive makeover. But they and the rest of the Tigers will be tested against this strong UNC team.

North Carolina may or may not play point guard RJ Davis − the team’s consensus All-American last season, the ACC Player of the Year, and one of the best players in Tar Heels history. He left the team’s Blue-White Scrimmage Saturday with what the program labeled a “lower back contusion” after a hard fall. 

Elliot Cadeau, a returning starter, gives the Tar Heels one of the most dynamic backcourts in the country. They also have five-star freshman Ian Jackson and junior Seth Trimble, perhaps the team’s best defender.
