So you want to go gambling at Stardew Valley ‘s Casino? No worries, I won’t judge how you spend your hard-earned gold.
To access the Casino in Calico Desert you must first prove yourself to its owner: The Mysterious Mr. Qi. Complete four tasks for this eccentric stranger and he’ll reward you with a Club Card to his exclusive playground.
Ways To Start The Quest
There are two different ways you might get tipped off about this quest:
Both of these secrets point to the mysterious door in the tunnel exiting Pelican Town to the west, near where you can find Linus’s Basket for a previous quest.
Feeling impatient? No need to wait until you’ve found the in-game tip—just head over when you’re ready to complete the first task.
First Task: Lockbox
To reach the tunnel, head west from the Bus Stop, then keep going along the road until you enter the tunnel. Mr. Qi’s lockbox is on the wall inside.
The lockbox’s door is in the shadows between two overhead lights.
Hate messing about in the dark? Me too—that’s why I always carry a Glowstone Ring , even outside the Mines.
Opening it up requires a Battery Pack . You can get one from placing Lightning Rod around the farm to protect crops during Summer’s thunderstorms. They generate a battery pack 7 days after the storm.
Inside the box you’ll be rewarded with a note and your second task … thanks, I guess. No reward yet! You’ll also add The Mysterious Mr. Qi quest to your journal.
Second Task: Train Station
Mr. Qi’s second task is pretty straightforward: put a Rainbow Shell into the box at the Train Station.
He specifically means the box on the platform—not one of the other boxes in the area. Fortunately, this is pretty easy to figure out by trial and error.
Getting a Rainbow Shell can be a bit trickier. These shells only spawn at the Beach during the Summer, so make sure you check the Beach regularly.
Is summer already over? If you befriend Demetrius, there’s a chance he’ll send you a Rainbow Shell in the mail.
After depositing the Rainbow Shell, you’ll receive a note with Mr. Qi’s third task.
Third Task: Mayor’s Fridge
Your next mission—should you choose to accept it—is to fill Mayor Lewis‘s fridge with Beet . Ten of them, to be exact.
Beet Seeds can be purchased from the Oasis in Calico Desert. To unlock the Desert, you’ll need to complete all the Vault bundles in the Community Center .
Doing so costs 42,500g and repairs the Bus, allowing Pam to drive you to Calico Desert. Buying a ticket costs just 500g.
Once you have the seeds, plant ’em during Fall and grow your Beets. Sandy always has the seeds on sale, so if you’ve missed the season you can still grow some beets in the Greenhouse.
After stocking Mayor Lewis’s fridge with 10 Beets, you’ll find a note with one last challenge from Mr. Qi.
Worried about building up cash to purchase the Vault? My go-to cash crops are Blueberries and Cranberries because they sell well and offer multiple harvests. Plant them in the Greenhouse for year-round gold!
Final Task: Sand Dragon
Mr. Qi’s final task is a bit less straightforward than your prior accomplishments. His note directs you to give the “Sand Dragon his final meal.”
Wait, Stardew Valley has dragons?
Not quite. “Sand” is your main clue—grab a Solar Essence and head back over to Calico Desert.
If you don’t have one yet, Solar Essences are a common drop from Ghosts in the Mines. Ghosts can be found on floors 51 to 79.
If you investigate the skeleton just north of the Oasis, you’ll receive a text box that the sand dragon “yearns for a taste” of the sun. Use your Solar Essence to give him one.
Unfortunately, you don’t get your prize just yet. A note pops out telling you to inspect the lumber pile next to your house. No task required, though—when you do, you’ll receive the Club Card .
Enter The Casino
At last, the entry card is in your grubby grasp! Head back on over to Calico Desert. Inside the Oasis the northeast stairway is blocked by a Bouncer . Show him the Club Card, and he’ll let you into the Casino.
Inside, you’ll be able to exchange your gold for Qi Coins used in the Casino’s games.
Game | Price |
---|---|
Low-Stakes CalicoJack | 100 Qi Coins |
High-Stakes CalicoJack | 1,000 Qi Coins |
Slot Machines | 10 or 100 Qi Coins |
Win big, and you can trade in your Qi Coins for all sorts of prizes. Fancy yourself a real big spender? The guy next to the Qi Coins machine offers to sell a Statue Of Endless Fortune for the low, low price of 1,000,000g.
Oh, and you can finally meet your questgiver—the elusive Mr. Qi himself.
