Black Myth Wukong loves to hide a boss within a secret area. In fact, there are tons of bosses hidden throughout this game’s world that only the most inquisitive and perceptive of players will ever see.
However, as far as secret areas go, the Zodiac Village requires much less legwork to uncover than others within this record-breaking Action RPG.
Players must defeat Chen-Loong and complete his quest, and they’ll be granted access to this new area. You’ll encounter some new friends and create a space for familiar faces to come together as one.
However, it’s the blacksmith, Yin Tiger; we want to focus on today because they may serve as a helpful NPC who can upgrade your gear. They also happen to be one of the hardest bosses you’ll face in the game.
How To Find Yin Tiger
As mentioned, you’ll only be able to access the Jin Tiger fight if you gain access to the Zodiac Village, a secret area accessed within Chapter Three. To unlock this area, you need to complete the following sequence of events:
- Players must access the North Shore of Bitter Lake Shrine, which can only be accessed by defeating Kang-Jin-Star
- After this, players just defeat Chen-Loong, who can be found east of the North Shore of Bitter Lake Shrine, in a shallow body of water.
- After defeating Chen-Loong, the player should return to Xu Dog under the Crouching Tiger Temple and talk to them, and they will give you the pill that Chen-Loong requires.
- Deliver this to Chen-Loong and they will give you the Ruyi Scroll, allowing you to access the Zodiac Village.
Then, once you get to the Zodiac Village, head east of Shen Monkey and Xu Dog, and you’ll find Yin Tiger. Talk to them and select the ‘Challenge’ option when you feel prepared to fight them.
How To Prepare For Yin Tiger
The Yin Tiger is a Black Myth: Wukong boss that mainly relies on physical attacks and fast-paced combos with very precise dodge windows.
So, there isn’t a tonne of specific preparation that can be done for this fight. But here are some general tips that will give you the best chance of success:
- We would suggest upgrading your Healing Gourd 3/4 times before attempting this boss.
- It’s best to unlock skills that increase your maximum stamina and your ability to dodge frequently, as this fight is fast-paced.
- As with any boss, check if you have the option to upgrade your weapons and armor.
- Be sure to check in with Xu Dog and spend yourMind Core
- Spend some sparks upgrading your A Pluck of Many Spell, as this is super helpful in this fight to catch your breath and deal decent damage while you do.
- Upgrade your Pillar Stance, as most of Yin Tiger’s attacks are grounded, giving you a way to dodge and counter with a heavy blow.
How To Beat Yin Tiger
The fight will begin with the Yin Tiger taking a defensive stance and waiting for you to come to them. You can either rush them and trigger their melee attack or wait for them to break stance and come for you. Either way, they will likely use a spinning aerial attack with a precise dodge window.
After this initial exchange,, they will likely disappear and then perform a series of sneak attacks. You can’t lock on during this phase, so listen for the sound cues and dodge when they pop in to view. The first three attacks are single attacks with a generous dodge window, but the final attack requires mastery.
This is an attack in which their blade slows red hot, and they slam the ground twice, with the second slam followed by an exploding pulse underfoot.
This combination can vary slightly, and the alternative sequence begins with an attack where they drop from directly above you. Then, it finishes with a spinning attack that spins once, then twice in a split second. The timing of this attack is insanely precise, so if you have Cloud Step charged, cast this to avoid being hurt.
After you drop them down to about 50% health, this is a good time to start really going for broke. Using A Pluck of Many alongside a transformation like Red Tides allows you to go after them with careless abandon, swinging wildly to melt their health bar, and if you do this at the right time, you can easily get them down to a slither of health.
The only other thing you need to look out for is his grab/gale attack, where they will stagger you and lock you in an inescapable animation where they slam their blade right down on your spine. It’s not a huge damage dealer, but one that will definitely affect your flow.
In truth, while there are some little things you can do, like combining spells and transformations to boost their effectiveness and make the most of things like Pillar Stance, the only way to truly ace this fight is to understand their attack timing down to a tee, and pick your moments to strike very carefully. Greed will only lead to failure in this fight.
Rewards For Defeating Yin Tiger
If you manage to defeat the Yin Tiger, the player will be awarded with a new transformation that will allow you to become the Yin Tiger himself courtesy of the transformation spell, Ebon Flow .
This transformation is a much slower one when compared to, say, Red Tides, but the trade-off is much stronger, insanely powerful strikes, a might bar that takes quite some time to deplete, allowing you to stay in this form for longer than most.
Plus, you can also use deflection skills to absorb attacks and deal with devastating counterattacks.
