Every AAA game these days seems to have an in-game woman that the fans fawn over. In Resident Evil Village it was Lady Dimitrescu, in Cyberpunk 2077 it was Judy Alvarez, and it seems like Kang-Jin-Star is Black Myth Wukong’s representative that is stealing the hearts of the gaming collective. However, it’s an unrequited love, as she’s all too happy to kill you where you stand.
This boss represents a pivotal moment in chapter three and serves as a challenging fight that will leave you in shock, quite literally.
However, to avoid being left bloodied, bruised, and facedown in the snow, we aim to provide some helpful tips to teach her a lesson and get off Turtle Island to pastures new.
Where is Kang-Jin-Star?
Kang-Jin-Star is located on Turtle Island, an area accessed by defeating the Macaque Chief at the Warding Temple. Then, you head onward until you slide down a patch of snow near the South Shore of Bitter Lake Shrine.
Once on the turtle’s back, you’ll locate an area where Kang-Jin-Star is talking to someone encased in an ancient cymbal, and after a short cutscene, she will begin the fight.
How To Prepare For Kang-Jin-Star
Firstly, let’s go through the general hints and tips that I would suggest before entering into this fight:
Then, as for tips related to this battle in particular, you’ll want something that can eliminate the four bane effects, as this boss inflicts both chill and shock. Shock-Quelling Powder and Body-Warming Powder work in a pinch, but having the Azure Dust Transformation can also help due to their immunity.
Plus, I would also consider having the Ring of Fire spell active over the Immobilize spell, as in this fight, due to their deadly grab attack, it’s paramount that you remain at full health where possible, otherwise you may get one-shotted.
How to Defeat Kang-Jin-Star
Kang-Jin-Star will open the fight with a simple triple lightning projectile attack, and then you will have some time to get your initial strikes in.
After this, Kang-Jin-Star tends to transform into the ethereal dragon Kang-Jin-Loong and cast a series of lightning pillars around the arena, so watch underfoot and dodge if needed.
I found that sprinting in a wide counter clockwise circle allowed me to avoid every lightning attack with little need to dodge, so consider doing this.
After they return to their human form, you will have a few moments to attack before they will counter again. This time, encasing themselves in a ball of electricity. It’s best to back off completely here and jump over the shockwaves when their electric ball bursts.
They may occasionally change back into their dragon form briefly to perform a tail slam attack, but after this electro ball, they will use simplistic melee combos and electric surge attacks until you get them down to about 50% health.
At this point, Kang-Jin-Star will rise into the air and summon five magic projectiles, which they will hurl at the player one at a time for the first three, and then they will toss the last two at once. The dodge window is very generous here, so just watch and react as they come.
After this period ends, Kang-Jin-Star enters their second phase, and things get serious. They will begin by repeating their lightning pillars attack, then come at you with a range of melee and magic attacks.
The melee attacks are essentially easy-to-read triple attacks, but because they happen in tandem with shock attacks, it can be a common thing to get zapped just before the point of contact, leaving you vulnerable to a combo. So, while focusing on the boss, also keep an eye on the environment around you.
Due to the variety of AOE, projectile and melee attacks on offer, it’s very easy to get overwhelmed. So I would recommend using the A Pluck of Many Spell to distract the boss as much as possible and take the heat off yourself.
Aside from the melee barrages, there are two main things to watch out for during this second phase. Firstly, you will need to avoid their raining bolt attack. This isn’t all that hard to do, as a strafe to either side will avoid the multiple bolts. However, just be wary of the final spear they throw, as this is much more accurate and requires a precise dodge.
Then secondly, much like Captain Wise Voice, Kang-Jin-Star also has a grab attack that is essentially a one-shot kill unless you are sitting on full health.
This is telegraphed by their hands filling with lightning before they lunge at you with arms extended. Provided you can avoid this and not get overwhelmed by their relentless attacks, you should walk out of this one the victor.

If you manage to defeat Kang-Jin-Star in Black Myth: Wukong, you’ll earn the following rewards:
In truth, there isn’t anything all that game changing. However, the Refined Iron Sand and Loong Pearl will allow you to craft great new weapons and Armor. Plus, a Mind Core is always appreciated.
