Key Takeaways
- Prepare with Shock and Chill resistance using Ochre Armor or Galeguard Beastmaw Armor.
- Unlock Composure skill for chaining attacks and use Gore-Eyed Daoist spirit with Raging Blood for a damage buff.
- Dodge and immobilize Kang-Jin-Loong to land hits and defeat for rewards like the Kang-Jin Staff.
As you enter the snowfields that play host to the third chapter of Black Myth Wukong, you’ll likely feel, after the various tough bosses you have faced thus far, that you can take on anything this brutal game throws your way.
However, this game is great at finding unique ways to send the player back to a nearby shrine with their tail between their legs, and the Dragon boss, Kang-Jin-Loong, is a prime example of this.
This boss is a strong boss, which is very hard to land consistent hits on due to its serpent like nature, it’s ability to fly around in a dynamic manner, and it’s array of lightning attacks to keep you at bay.
However, if you follow this guide you might just survive this frosty encounter and make it to the Pagoda Realm.
How to Prepare For Kang-Jin-Loong
There are a couple of essential preparations to be made that will make this fight a lot easier. Firstly, you need to ensure you have some Shock and Chill resistance.
The ideal way I would suggest doing this is by setting yourself up with the Ochre Armor set and then using Shock Quelling Powder to remove shock status and add resistance to shock when needed. However, you can go with the Galeguard Beastmaw Armor and some Body Warming Powder if you prefer.
Secondly, as this fight is fought against an enemy that is constantly on the move, and hard to land consistent hits on, I would highly suggest you unlock the Composure skill, as this will allow you to chain attacks with the freedom to dodge, making it more likely you can land combo finishers and stagger the dragon.
Then lastly, I would suggest using a Spirit that doesn’t rely on landing a blow, as timing this is a nightmare. Instead, I would consider the Gore-Eyed Daoist, as their Raging Blood attack allows you to create an AOE buff zone on the battlefield, and then you can make Kang-Jin-Loong come to you.
Players could also consider completing the Drunken Pig Quest in chapter two and defeating Fuban to gain the Wind Tamer Vessel. As this will allow you to increase damage resistance and can be used for a quick knockdown. However, I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely necessary.
How to Defeat Kang-Jin-Loong
When you step onto the frozen lake, this slippery dragon will show themselves, and the fight will burst to life. They will immediately come after you with one of their slithering head-on attacks which are common throughout this fight. When their head comes near you, time your dodge to get out of the way.

An unverified Chinese modder has revealed how he was able to run the global hit Black Myth: Wukong on an Android Device, in a not-so-impressive manner
They will likely follow this up with a lightning claw attack, which will see them strike the ground with each claw, causing a lightning surge. In this instance you’ll want to dodge left and through the first strike to also avoid the second.
After this initial exchange, you should get a good opportunity when they are at ground level to use the immobilization spell to get some good shots in.
They will likely make use of one of their more devastating attacks after this, which is their tail slam attack. They will do a somersault in mid-air and slam their tail down with force. It’s key that you get good at dodging this one, as this grants the player an extended period where they can attack their tail while it is planted on the ground.
These are the main attacks they will use when at close range, but because they are hardly ever at ground level or sitting still, you’ll always be fighting to stay within striking range of this beast.
I need to re-iterate that the Composure skill is such a valuable one to have for this fight, as this allows you to effectively spam attacks while at close range, and more often than not, your combo finisher will connect and stagger Kang-Jin-Loong.
From range, they will often use a frost breath attack, which inflicts chill and deals decent damage. This moves from left to right, so to avoid either run right and away, or dodge through the attack to the left.
Then, every now and again, Kang-Jin-Loong will also use a lightning strike attack where they will open the heavens and summon lightning in different areas of the arena. This effectively acts like small AOE pillars dotted around the arena, and you’ll want to be constantly on the move to avoid these.
Then finally, the dragon has a whirlwind attack where they will spin rapidly to get you caught up in a tornado that will send you skyward. This will stagger for a long time and leave you open to a devastating attack, so be sure to back off if you see them turn into a draconic Beyblade.
This is more or less everything that this ice-cold killer can throw at you throughout this fight, but the moveset isn’t the biggest issue here. It’s that the dragon is always on the move and has no limbs to telegraph their attacks clearly.
The key to success here is to always be stringing together combos in the hope of landing finishers, as they will occasionally fall to the ground and leave themselves open to a flurry of attacks.
Plus, you’ll want to make the most of your Immobilization spell to hold them in place when they are at ground level and your Cloud Step spell for easy staggers while avoiding their more tricky attacks to dodge consistently.
Rewards For Defeating Kang-Jin-Loong
After you defeat Kang-Jin-Loong, you will be transported to the Pagoda Region, and you’ll earn the following rewards for your efforts:
- 1586x Will
- 3x Cold Iron Leaves
- Starlit Cloud Bidden Antler
The additional Cold Iron Leaves will allow you to complete your Ochre Armor Set if you haven’t already, and the Starlit Cloud Bidden Antler will allow you to craft a powerful weapon known as the Kang-Jin Staff later in the game.
