Floyd Schofield Jr 134.4 Vs. Rene Tellez Giron 134.4 – Weigh-in Results For Saturday On DAZN

Floyd Schofield and Rene Tellez Giron weighed 134.4 pounds during Friday’s weigh-in for their 12-round lightweight contest in the main event on DAZN this Saturday, November 2nd. Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) continues progressing toward a world title shot.

Golden Boy Promotions are giving Schofield a guy who will test his chin with his matchup against the 25-year-old (20-3, 13 KOs). They want to make sure that he’s ready when he does get a world title shot because he struggled in his fight against Haskell Rhodes in July 2023. Schofield was hurt in that fight, and he had to reach deep to pull out a ten-round decision win.

Giron, 25, has three defeats, but he’s won his recent fights and is going to be confident on Saturday night against the easy-to-hit Scholfield. If the 22-year-old Schofield fights like he did against Rhodes, Giron has got a good chance of winning.

“I think he’s going to get a good test in this fight from Rene Tellez Giron. Three losses and has a winning streak right now. He has some good wins,” said commentator Chris Mannix to DAZN Boxing about Giron.

“Golden Boy is investing a lot in Schofield, but they’re also testing him. That’s what Golden Boy does. They’re one of the best matchmakers in the game. It’s sink or swim with them,” said Sergio Mora. “Schofield has the better hand and athleticism, but he does get hit because he likes to mix it up.

“If he mixes it up with Giron, it’s going to be a longer night than expected. I’m favoring Schofield in this fight because I feel he’s learned from his past ways. His Haskell Rhodes fight was rougher than expected. So, he knows not to go into those types of fights, especially against a Mexican style that wants to make it that kind of fight,” said Mora.

Giron will have watched the Rhodes fight, and will be looking to put the same kind of pressure on Schofield that he did. He may not be as big of a puncher as Rhodes, but that might not matter.

“If he’s going to lure the young buck into a fight, fans are going to be in for a great treat, but Schofield might be in for an upset if he does that. Schofield is not a name. He needs to be in these big fights. He got the main event after Vergil Ortiz wasn’t able to get that main event slot.”

If Schofield loses this fight, it’s going to be a long way back to the top because he’s going to need a lot of work for him to climb to the #2 spot again with the WBA. If not for the Haskell Rhodes fight, this would be seen as a sure-thing win for Schofield. The Rhodes fight showed that Schofield is still flawed and not ready for a world title shot yet.

“He shined in a fight where he got cut; it was exciting, and he got knocked down. Now, he’s the main event, but now he’s got to be a little bit more careful. He knows it’s the perfect style matchup, but it’s sink or swim,” said Mora.

The only reason he’s in the main event is because of Vergil Jr. not being ready to go after his grueling fight against Serhii Bohachuk. Schofield needs to prove that he deserves to headline future cards by make easy work of Giron.
