Fantasy football rosters are in need of a constant state of change, which means it’s important to know which waiver wire pickups to prioritize and who to avoid. With so many injuries happening this season, it’s important to have a guide to help you as you move forward. We have also seen a number of quarterbacks changes this season, which has altered the fantasy landscape for many skill players.

The Carolina Panthers made a change at quarterback by replacing Bryce Young with Andy Dalton, immediately propelling Diontae Johnson and others to fantasy relevance. The Patriots have gone the other way, replacing veteran Jacoby Brissett with rookie Drake Maye. They lost comprehensively in Maye’s first start to the Houston Texans, but he threw three touchdowns. Demario Douglas, Hunter Henry and Kayshon Boutte all caught touchdowns as the Patriots fell 41-21 to the Texans. Some food for thought but we will need to see that more consistently before pushing for them as priority waiver wire pickups.

With all that in mind, we’re here to parse the data and provide the information that you need to know as you set your waiver wire claims. Here are the top players to target going into Week 7.

Fantasy Football Week 7 Waiver Wire Advice

Running Backs

Tyrone Tracy Jr., New York Giants

Tyrone Tracy Jr. made an appearance in last week’s waiver wire article after a solid showing in Week 5, and he certainly rewarded fantasy managers that took the chance on him. In Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Tracy Jr. touched the ball 23 times for 107 total yards and a touchdown, which equated to 22.7 fantasy points in PPR scoring formats.

His explosiveness was on full display on the national stage on Sunday night, and he was able to provide a spark – both as a runner and receiver – for this New York Giants offense that has desperately needed some big plays this season out of the backfield. He was able to force four missed tackles – tied for the second-most in the NFL at the RB position in Week 6 – and he posted an impressive 83.3% burn rate as a receiver.

Devin Singletary may make his way back from his injury in Week 7, so we don’t know definitively what Tracy Jr.’s role will be, but he has been too effective for the Giants to completely move him back to the bench. He may have taken over the RB1 role for this offense during Singletary’s absence. Almost any top option for an NFL offense has plenty of value from a fantasy standpoint based on volume alone.

If he’s available in your league, he’s worth targeting with a 15-20% FAAB bid.

Ty Chandler, Minnesota Vikings

Ty Chandler hasn’t exactly been the most effective or efficient runner whenever he’s been asked to step into a larger role, but volume is king in fantasy football. With Aaron Jones banged up going into Minnesota’s bye week, it’s unclear at the moment whether or not he’s going to be able to make it back in time for their showdown against the Detroit Lions in Week 7.

As the clear backup option to Jones, Chandler deserves to be rostered regardless. Jones has dealt with numerous injuries over the past few seasons that have forced him to miss time and we could see Chandler be the starting option at multiple points down the stretch this year.

If he’s available in your league, he’s worth picking up and potentially starting as a low-end RB2 in Week 7 if Jones is forced to miss more than just the team’s bye.

Sean Tucker, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Going into Week 6, Sean Tucker had two carries on the season. After Week 6, he leads the entire NFL in YPC-RD (Yards per carry where a run disruption occurs) with 7.75. He also had a 100% Burn Rate on his three targets during the Giants’ 51-27 victory over the to Saints.

The New Orleans Saints simply did not have an answer for him on defense as he carried the ball 14 times for 136 yards and one touchdown, while adding 56 yards and another score through the air on three receptions.

Bucky Irving and Tucker were a formidable duo in Week 6, but questions remain as to how this backfield will shape up once Rachaad White returns to the active roster. The run game showed significant signs of life against New Orleans after struggling the majority of the season and it wouldn’t be shocking to see White sent to the bench in favor of Tampa Bay’s younger – and more efficient – options.

It’s a bit of a gamble to add Tucker, especially when other players may have more of a path to guaranteed touches, but it’s going to be very difficult for the Bucs coaching staff to relegate Tucker to a complete backup role after this dominant performance.

Ray Davis, Buffalo Bills

Ray Davis was one of my favorite handcuff RBs coming into the year due to his talent level and the opportunity in front of him alongside James Cook in this Buffalo Bills backfield. While he didn’t necessarily make much of a mark in the first five weeks of the season, he showed flashes of his speed and playmaking ability at different points.

With Cook sidelined for Week 6 against the New York Jets though, we saw that talent and playmaking ability shine through in a massive way. Davis immediately put everyone on notice on the first drive of the game as he rumbled for 48 yards on just six carries and it only continued to go up from there.

Moving forward, Cook is not expected to miss significant time and that puts Davis back into the high-end handcuff territory from a fantasy perspective. However, based on what we saw when he was given an expanded role, it would not be shocking to see the Bills lean into more of a rotation between Cook and Davis for the remainder of the season.

Wide Receivers

Josh Downs, Indianapolis Colts

If Joe Flacco was the full-time QB for the Indianapolis Colts, Josh Downs would potentially be a locked-in starter for fantasy lineups every single week.

Over the past three weeks, Downs has seen 30 total targets, reeling in 24 of them, and he has managed to find the end zone in two of those three contests. He’s providing a high floor, but he’s also managing to present some upside, too.

All signs point to Anthony Richardson being back at QB for the Colts in Week 7, which will tarnish Downs’ fantasy outlook slightly. However, we know by now that Richardson is not a guarantee to suit up every single weekend for the remainder of the year, which makes Downs a must-stash player moving forward.

He can be viewed as a low-end WR3 with Richardson as the starting QB that moves up the rankings if Flacco is ever asked to step back in. He’s worth targeting in the 10% FAAB range.

Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals

Due to the fact that Marvin Harrison Jr. was ruled out of Week 6’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers early on with a concussion, Michael Wilson moves up the waiver wire rankings as the next man up in this Arizona Cardinals’ passing attack.

It hasn’t been exactly pretty for Arizona recently on offense, but Wilson was able to provide some upside for fantasy lineups last week by finding the end zone for the second time this season. With a full week off to prepare for Harrison Jr.’s likely absence in Week 7 – and maybe even longer as he goes through concussion protocol – Wilson could become a focal point for this passing game.

If Harrison Jr. does miss Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers, Wilson can be viewed as a high-end WR3 with touchdown upside.

Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers

Did you know that – despite missing Week 5 due to a team suspension – Romeo Doubs is tied for the 13th-most red-zone receptions at the WR position in the NFL this season? While his fantasy performances have been a bit inconsistent, Jordan Love is regularly looking his way when they get into the key area of the field.

He’s also looking in Doubs’ direction in general with 24 targets so far despite missing that Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Dontayvion Wicks is nursing a shoulder injury and could miss time, opening up a path for Doubs to see even more targets come his way.

The Packers are averaging 27 points per game, tied for eighth in the league. They have 14 touchdown receptions, which is the second-most in the league behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The offense is purring and they are 4-2 on the season.

The ball is being spread around regularly in this Green Bay Packers offense, but if Love is going to continue to trust Doubs to reel in red-zone opportunities like he did in Week 6 – two touchdown receptions – he’s worth adding and plugging into your Flex spot as early as Week 7.

Tight Ends

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints appeared to be on track to be one of the league’s best offenses after the first two weeks of the season, but gravity pulled them back down to earth a bit here recently and they’re struggling to find their way.

Hill was heavily involved in this offense before his injury that sidelined him since Week 4 – while he also missed Week 3 – and he’ll be needed a lot next week with rookie QB Spencer Rattler in line for another start. We should see him rotate in plenty and get the ball in his hands consistently throughout the course of the game.

Hill’s not a consistent fantasy asset by any means, but if he does end up returning for Week 7, he’ll be a sneaky low-end TE1 that comes with plenty of upside.
