Deontay Wilder’s Trainer Insists He’ll Fight Again, Wants Joshua Or Ngannou

Deontay Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, says he’ll fight again and believes mega-fights against Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou are possibilities. Unfortunatly, Wilder hasn’t looked good since Malik Scott started training him in 2021.

Wilder turns 39 in October, and he doesn’t appear to have anything left in the tank after being knocked out in three of his last five fights. He made the slapper Tyson Fury look like a KO artist, and that’s not easy to do.

Many fans feel Deontay (44-4-1, 42 KOs) should have fired Scott long ago because he’s no longer throwing his right hand or fighting aggressively like he once did before the two teamed up.

A new trainer should be a priority for Deontay if he’s seriously interested in resuming his career and getting the big fights against Joshua and Ngannou.

Wilder’s fights Since Hiring Scott

1. Zhilei Zhang: TKO 5 loss
2. Joseph Parker: UD 12 loss
3. Robert Helenius: KO 1 win
4. Tyson Fury: KO 11 loss

Malik has Wilder moving around the ring instead of attacking his opponents, and style has been poison for the Bronze Bomber’s career. He doesn’t fight well when moving and lacks the leg strength and stamina to use that approach without tiring.

Since taking on the role of Deontay’s coach, Wilder has gone 1-3, with his only win against his former sparring partner Rober Helenius in 2022.

The former WBC heavyweight champion has lost four out of his last five fights and looks like a shadow of the fighter he was during his best years from 2015 to 2017.

For Wilder to get a fight against Anthony Joshua, he’ll probably need to get a solid win or two under his belt to help build that match-up. Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, won’t be eager to pull the trigger on a fight against Wilder, with him coming off consecutive losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

It’s understandable why Malik Scott wants Wilder to continue fighting. It’s an excellent-paying job, and he doesn’t have anyone he trains who can bring in the money that Wilder did.

Why wouldn’t Malik want Wilder to continue fighting? However, the odds of Deontay getting fights against Joshua and Ngannou are quite low without him redeeming himself against one or two of the top 10 contenders.
