One of the best reasons to play Beyond Galaxyland is the variety of enemies Doug can Capture. This popular variation on the JRPG formula allows you to even catch most bosses or superbosses you encounter throughout the game!

Beyond Galaxyland Review
Looking to scratch that JRPG itch? Beyond Galaxyland vies to be the genre’s best in 2024.
But out of the dozens of beasties for you to snap up, which are the best? Which adds the most to your tactical toolkit?
Let’s launch off and explore the best that Beyond Galaxyland offers.
10 Baby Raptor
Early-Game Buff Carries The Team
Element | Fire |
---|---|
Location | Main Story on Erros |
Abilities | Psych (SP 6), Lunge (SP 6) |
Baby Raptors are the first enemy you encounter—practically the game’s Goomba—and their Psych ability’s Strength buff is no joke. This ability is especially powerful during the early game, when you don’t have enough SP to cast damage-dealing summons frequently.
Although the Guardian Ape boss casts Strength on your whole party, the Baby Raptor’s cheap SP cost makes it more versatile. After all, often only one character will be equipped for dealing physical damage in your three-man team.
9 Bessie
Battle-Ready Bovine
Element | Fire |
---|---|
Location | Main Story on Xalm |
Abilities | Charge (SP 19) |
Bessie is a jewel-covered cow whose Charge attack compares favorably with the late game’s sidequest superbosses, making her the best mid-game summon to deal damage. Her heavy damage does come with a hefty cost, so get those Energy Pots ready if you want to spam her attack.
The main downside to Bessie is that she has no abilities until she maxes out at Level 4. As the only summon with such a hefty experience cost, it’s pretty reasonable to leave her on the bench.
8 Mama Crawler
Giant Spider Drains Enemies’ Blood
Element | Dark |
---|---|
Location | Sidequest Boss on Juno |
Abilities | Spider Bite (SP 10), Drain Fang (SP 20) |
This giant arachnid from the depths of Juno’s mines is the best Dark element summon in Beyond Galaxyland. Mama Crawler’s Spider Bite is an efficient damage-dealing attack, while her Drain Fang returns some health to the caster.
Unlike most bosses, both of Mama Crawler’s attacks only damage a single target. Despite that, she’s a strong summon to equip to an Intelligence-focused character because she gives a much-needed healing option.
Not sure how to reach Juno due to the gigantic dragon in the planet’s orbit? Try slipping past once you unlock a Booster. The dragon won’t attack if you’re inside its orbit—so if you boost carefully you can halt within the safe zone.
7 Crimson Deathclaw
Defender Of The Desert
Element | Light |
---|---|
Location | Sidequest Boss on Xalm |
Abilities | Big Guard (SP 22) |
The first superboss on our list is the Crimson Deathclaw which lurks under the Desert Rose in Xalm’s oasis. Its Big Guard ability casts both Strength and Defense on your entire party.
Defense isn’t as OP for the player as it is when enemies use it—I was disappointed too—but the improved damage reduction certainly makes underleveled fights easier. The only downside to the Crimson Deathclaw, kind of, is that it contributes less to ending fights than the rest of this list’s entries.

6 Penguin
Earth’s Fastest Bird, Apparently
Element | Light |
---|---|
Location | Quest Reward on Arcos |
Abilities | Haste (SP 8), Haste All (SP 16) |
Complete Arcos’s first sidequest and Turbulent forcibly rewards you with a Penguin which somehow arrived here from Earth. This summon is the first time Beyond Galaxyland gives you access to Haste.
And boy, is speeding up good!
With an active turn-timer inspired by Chrono Triggerand similar games, Haste is a game-changer during Beyond Galaxyland‘s battles. The higher a character’s Speed, the better Haste gets!
Considering the Penguin’s cheap SP cost, I literally never unequipped it for the rest of the game.
5 Armordillo
Turn Anyone Into A Cleric
Element | Light |
---|---|
Location | Outside the Water Temple on Erros |
Abilities | Rejuvenate (SP 6), Rejuvenate All (SP 11) |
The Armordillo’s abilities are simple and impactful. Rejuvenate heals half of a character’s max Health, allowing anyone who equips this summon to do double-duty as a healer.
Healing abilities are scarce, and Rejuvenate scales well as you level up. This makes Armordillo the most important early-game summon to Capture.
I also regard Rejuvenate as more reliable than Boom Boom’s Tender Embrace healing ability. Although SP doesn’t replenish automatically, you always know how much you have. Relying entirely on Ability Points for Tender Embrace sometimes leaves you in the lurch if you get unlucky and miss a string of attacks.
4 Sentinel Knight
Smiting Your Foes
Element | Light |
---|---|
Location | Sidequest Boss on Crystalis |
Abilities | Holy Sword (SP 26) |
This superboss from Crystalis puts serious pain on your foes with its high-powered Holy Sword attack. The Sentinel Knight is a little challenging to Capture, but it’s also the only source of Light damage in the game.
Unlike some other superbosses, the Sentinel Knight is fairly easy to confront. Consequently, it’s a staple for characters focusing on damage from summons throughout both the mid-game and the late-game.
For both elemental diversity and raw power, don’t pass this one up!
3 Juno Zolom
Yes, You Can Capture A Superboss
Element | Fire |
---|---|
Location | Orbiting Juno |
Abilities | Inferno (SP 27) |
Without a doubt, the most difficult superboss in Beyond Galaxyland is the dragon Juno Zolom. Orbiting the planet of the same name, this titan is a terrifying threat from the moment your spaceship launches off of Erros.
Juno Zolom’s Inferno ability deals the most damage in the game. By a lot—with a late-game build, the dragon’s attack can deal nearly 1,000 more damage than the Sentinel Knight.
The only reason Juno Zolom isn’t higher on this list is that once you’ve captured it … there’s not much left to challenge you. Sure, it improves your damage output. If you beat the dragon, but haven’t yet beaten Reskins Arena or the final boss, you already probably don’t need more firepower.
That said, unleashing Juno Zolom is hilarious in New Game+, and can be genuinely useful for beating the second playthrough’s higher difficulty.
2 Daddy Rex
Roaringly Good Buff Spell
Element | Fire |
---|---|
Location | Sidequest Boss on Erros |
Abilities | War Cry (SP 20) |
Like the Crimson Deathclaw, the Daddy Rex has a single ability which gives two buffs: Strength and Haste. War Cry is basically Penguin and Baby Raptor blended together and cast on your whole party.
The improved damage output and action economy from War Cry facilitates aggressive strategies. This mid-game boss summon seriously speeds up boss fights, and remains viable throughout the rest of the game.
Sure, War Cry is a smidgen expensive—but compared to the Penguin’s Haste All (SP 16), adding Strength on top is a bargain-bin discount.
1 Master Elemental
Three Times The Value
In combat, the Master Elemental is replaced in your Summons list by the Bolt, Fire, and Ice Elementals instead.
Element | Electric, Fire, Ice |
---|---|
Location | Quest Reward on Arcos |
Abilities | Ice (SP 13), Ice All (SP 20), Fire (SP 13), Fire All (SP 20), Bolt (SP 13), Bolt All (SP 20) |
The Master Elemental is the best summon in the game because it combines three creatures together: the Ice Elemental, the Bolt Elemental, and the Fire Elemental. This provides a huge amount of tactical flexibility for whomever equips the Master Elemental.
Especially late in the game, this flexibility makes the Master Elemental an excellent tool for diversifying damage types to score critical hits against an opponent’s weakness. It’s basically a necessity for creating a “black mage” type of build for characters like Boom Boom and Pablo.
The only sort-of-downside to the Master Elemental is that its damage output is the same as the lesser elementals. That said, the Master Elemental remains an essential piece of the damage-dealer’s puzzle. Equip it alongside Mama Crawler, Corroflora, and the Sentinel Knight to perfect your elemental options and maximize your power.
