Metaphor: ReFantazio is a game filled with useful items, consumables, accessories, weapons, and more.
To the point that it’s quite hard to truly know if your setup is as optimized as it possibly could be from one moment to the next. But I suppose this depth is what makes this new JRPG so popular and interesting.
However, when you get to the Virga Islands and finish the Dragon Temple Operation, you’ll finally have a chance to get your hands on a weapon for one particular Archetype, which will more or less serve as some of the best possible weapons for that Archetype in the game.
However, the problem is that you can only select one. So, to give you some insight ahead of time to help you make an informed choice, here’s an explanation of what happens at the Bonfire.
When Does The Bonfire Happen?
The Bonfire is a celebration that happens just before you are about to leave the Virga Islands for Alterbury Heights. So you will need to complete the Dragon Temple Operation, and then you will have to wait out the additional days you have left over before the deadline elapses.
Then, when the final evening rolls around, all of the major characters will gather for the celebration. There is no gameplay here or bosses to beat, so don’t panic. But you will have an important decision to make.
What Happens At The Bonfire?
At the Bonfire, quite a few things happen. You’ll first sit down with the group, and they will enjoy an island delicacy called Dragon Tear Fruit, which is a scarcely-grown fruit from the island that is used to achieve a higher state of being. In other words, the group all get high from eating this fruit, and it leads to a pretty comical scene.

All are viable, but they aren’t created equal.
After this plays out, you’ll be asked which party member in your group you would like to take to the Bonfire. This is an important choice for two reasons.
Firstly, you will only get to have this heartfelt exchange with one character, each offering unique dialogue worth hearing. But also, the character you choose will also give you a rare weapon related to their specialist Archetype.
Who Should You Choose?
So, now comes the most important question. Who should you take to the Bonfire?
First, it’s important to say that while these weapons vary somewhat, they all have similar stats and boast the same effect. So, no matter which you choose, you basically get the same weapon, just for a different Archetype.
Plus, we should also mention that while these weapons will be a boon at this point in the game, there are better options out there. So, don’t feel like picking one archetype will ensure another Archetype will never achieve its potential.
So the decision really depends on what Archetype you use most often, and what your usual team composition is. So, to help you make an informed decision, here is a rundown of every weapon that will be gifted to you depending on who you choose:
Character | Weapon Name | Weapon Stats | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
Rebel’s Greatsword | 320 Attack – 95 Hit | Recovers a small amount of MP each turn | |
Hulkenberg | Driftwood Lance | 320 Attack – 97 Hit | Recovers a small amount of MP each turn |
Neuras | Protobow Beta | 320 Attack – 99 Hit | Recovers a small amount of MP each turn |
Heismay | Silence | 320 Attack – 96 Hit | Recovers a small amount of MP each turn |
Junah | Stylish Fan | 320 Attack – 98 Hit | Recovers a small amount of MP each turn |
Eupha | Dancing Crosier | 320 Attack – 96 Hit | Recovers a small amount of MP each turn |
Gallica | Whalebone Rod | 320 Attack – 96 Hit | Recovers a small amount of MP each turn |
My personal choice, if anyone was wondering, was Heismay as the Thief Archetype tends to remain very useful right through to the end-game, but other great choices at this point in the game would include Eupha and Junah, and, to a slightly lesser extent, Gallica.
