Death Note, the hit manga by Tsugumi Ohba, which was then turned into a 37-epsiode anime series by Madhouse is getting a new game for the PS4 and PS5 titled “Death Note: Killer Within.”
This was confirmed by the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee (via Gematsu) where it’s also confirmed that it will be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. While the Chinese title is “Death Note: Shadow Mission,” the English website of the Taiawn ratings board confirms it will be titled “Killer Within.”
What Was the Last Death Note Video Game?
Outside of that, not much is known. That said, the existence of the game itself is huge news for fans of the franchise, as the last game we got based on the property is 2008’s L the ProLogue to Death Note: Spiraling Trap, which has its story set before the Kira investigation featured in the original manga. Note that this game was not released outside of Japan, and this completes the trilogy of Death Note games released on the Nintendo DS, with the first game Kira Game released in February 2007, and its follow up, Successors to L, released in July of the same year.
While nothing about the gameplay itself has been revealed, we wouldn’t be surprised if it follows the past Death Note games and sticks to its text-heavy, graphic novel-style of gameplay. Based on the trademark filing, it seems Bandai Namco is looking to release the game in the US and Europe, which means Death Note fans will finally have a game to look forward to with English text.
