Raquel Pennington lost the women’s bantamweight title in the UFC 307 co-main event to Julianna Peña in a controversial split decision. Pennington believes she won the fight as did many media members and commentators.
None the less, Peña walked away with the belt and the status of a two-time UFC champion. On Tuesday, Pennington took to social media and called for an immediate rematch against “The Venezuelan Vixen.”
“I’m home and I’m healthy. My heart hurts but my head is high! I do not feel I lost that fight but this is just another wild detour in this journey of mine. I will be back better than ever,” Pennington wrote on Instagram. “I want the rematch stat!”

Pennington may have to get in line, though. Peña called for former two-time titleholder Amanda Nunes to come out of retirement for a trilogy match and Nunes appears open to the possibility. If a trilogy bout between the two does not come to fruition, second-ranked Kayla Harrison has been calling for a title shot since her arrival in the fight promotion.
Regardless what’s next, Pennington thanked her family, friends and fans while promising to be back.
“Regardless, I’m counting my blessings. What an amazing fight week, surrounded by so much love, support and blessings. Memories that will last a lifetime. I’m full of gratitude and I want to send a shout out to all the people who stand behind me,” she said. “My entire family who has been my biggest support since day 1. All my close friends and to all my true fans out there I love each and every one of you. We will be back!!!”
