The sand plague is back, and it turns out its horrors look even better in 4K.
Ice-Pick Lodge dropped a short and moderately grotesque announcement trailer that lets on a lot about Pathologic 3, the much anticipated sequel to Pathologic 2 (2019).

10 Best Survival Games With Unique Mechanics
From city management to apocalyptic shooters, surviving in these games means very different things.
The new title has big shoes to fill, after the first game revolutionized the survival horror genre and reached maturity with the second entry.
Plague Mondays
The trailer opens with the average Monday of a rural town, with cheerful things like kids playing in the street while a corpse dangles from a post over them.
This time around, you play the role of Bachelor Daniil Dankovsky, a big city doctor with a posh aura and a lot more choices and tasks than in previous games.
Since the town is dying slowly of a horrifying plague, the Bachelor has to handle both the spread of the disease today, and an eventual cure.
Pathologic 3 lets you close down sectors of the town using patrols to enforce them, and gives you authority to mandate quarantines.
Keeping the infected at bay is only half the job though, and it will be to no avail unless you find a cure.
Playing Pathologic 3 does not require a virology degree, but you need a willingness to work with primitive tools at the local lab in order to understand the pathogen, then roll out a cure for it.
Back to the Grim Future
The volume of generic multiverse and time-travel media is overwhelming, but fortunately the developers of Pathologic have avoided taking the lazy route.
There will be no Marvel magical do-over button available, with trips to the past being more introspective.
Like in the prosecutor’s monologue in Albert Camus’ The Stranger, these flashbacks help you understand what actions or events led to the mess you are in, and what the future holds.
Ice-Pick Lodge have decided not to touch the winning formula for the rest of the game, with the player still given twelve days to make a difference.
The Steam page for Pathologic 3 is beautifully chaotic in its writing, committing to the franchise’s trademark psychological horror.
The tentative Pathologic 3 release date is 2025, but maybe the Bachelor can travel to next year and tell us what can be done today to make sure it happens.
