Sucker Punch Claims Ghost of Yotei Is More Than Just A Ghost of Tsushima Sequel

The much-awaited update to the Ghost of Tsushima franchise is finally here, and it takes us 300 years into the future from the events of the first game.

Revealed for the first time on PlayStation’s State of Play yesterday, Ghost of Yotei is the next installment in the franchise being developed by Sucker Punch Productions.

While the events of the upcoming game take place in a different region and a couple of centuries later, Jin Sakai’s legacy lives on.

First noted by The New York Times in an interview with the creative directors of Ghost of Tsushima, the upcoming game officially marks the beginning of a franchise that will soon be filled with a movie adaptation we already know about and other spin-offs.

Bearing this statement in mind, Ghost of Yotei might be considered a spin-off, and it is very likely that a continuation of Jin Sakai’s story will still be on the table and may be picked up later.

Releasing in 2025, Ghost of Yotei will allow players to explore and experience the beautiful region around Mt. Yotei as a female protagonist called Atsu. It was also unveiled how the events of the story will take place in the year 1603.

What Do We Know About Ghost of Yotei?

Unfortunately, not much was revealed about the upcoming game except the already discussed time jump and a change of regions.

However, digging deep into the trailer, a few dialogues reveal that Atsu is likely a hunter who is traveling up north with a different motive than others.

Additionally, the protagonist can often be seen holding a long list of what seems like names in different shots throughout the trailer, hinting at how there is a set target of people she is targeting.

Ghost of Tsushima, released in July 2020, is often considered one of the best PlayStation first-party titles. It remains highly likely that the latter part of Jin Sakai’s life would appear in Ghost of Yotei as a folk tale, and the studio would later introduce a mainline sequel to reveal what happened in reality.
