Mounts are a staple for any collector in World of Warcraft, and The War Within has brought a slew of new ones ripe for farming. Ranging from Nerubians to earthen machines to loyal beasts, there are plenty of mounts to choose from and many ways to obtain them.
Although this expansion didn’t add an overwhelming number of mounts to the game, most still have recolors across multiple forms of content.
This usually makes it easier to obtain a certain mount, if its color scheme isn’t the highest concern. However, even bearing said recolors in mind, some mounts still rise above the others, and they have earned their place in the list below.
7 Royal Court Undercrawler
A New Creepy Nerubian Mount!
Mount Type | Ground only |
---|---|
How To Get | Conspirator Rank with The Vizier, costs 2020 Kej |
The new Undercrawler mounts share the same model as the spider mounts (such as the Bloodfang Widow, which costs 2 million gold), but they bring a new Nerubian twist to them that is most welcome.
There are presently 3 Undercrawler mounts as of The War Within’s launch, each belonging to one of the three Nerubians in the Severed Threads renown faction.
However, the Royal Court Undercrawler (tied to the Vizier’s individual reputation) finds a spot on this list over the other two due to its unique color scheme. Rocking green, brown, and a hint of gold, it differs from most Nerubians have seen.
6 Diamond Mechsuit
Fashionably Earthen
Mount Type | Flying |
---|---|
How To Get | Achievement: The War Within Keystone Master: Season One |
The Diamond Mechsuit has a chic design, as we can expect from the clean and angular architecture of the Earthen. There are two recolors of this mount, but the Diamond Mechsuit takes the spot on this list for a few reasons.
First, its shiny coloring is much brighter than the other two, which are a tad more bland and basic. Secondly, and more importantly, its chest is not a blank slab of metal, but instead has a very Titan-like design that greatly livens up the appearance.
Furthermore, its shoulders pop more with its angular visual, and its engine looks far less clunky since there isn’t just a metal box on its back.
The Diamond Mechsuit is the reward for achieving Mythic Keystone Master in the first season of The War Within, making it a limited-time mount.
However, if this is missed out on, there are still the other two recolored mechsuits available to grab.
5 Beledar’s Spawn
The Void Beckons…
Mount Type | Flying |
---|---|
How To Get | Drops off of the rare, Beledar’s Spawn (low drop chance) |
For those who played in Shadowlands, the mount model used for Beledar’s Spawn might seem familiar, as it is highly reminiscent of the one used for all four Deathwalker mounts (specifically the Restoration Deathwalker if we are considering color).
Seeing that those were the rewards for each Dungeon Keystone Master achievement from that expansion, they are no longer available to claim, and that’s what makes seeing their reappearance in The War Within all the sweeter.
This mount is quite the aesthetic treat, to be sure, but there is something that makes it doubly unique. It is one of the few mounts in the game that requires the player character to stand up while riding it instead of sitting down, adding a more heroic feel to the mount than others.
This mount has an alternate appearance—Shackled Shadow. However, the black and bronze colors aren’t as eye-catching as the purple and silver of Beledar’s Spawn.
4 Sureki Skyrazor
Another Creepy Nerubian Mount… That Can Fly
Mount Type | Flying |
---|---|
How To Get | Drop off of Queen Ansurek on any raid difficulty (very low drop chance) |
Although the mount model for this mount isn’t anything new (most notably used for the Venthyr covenant flying mounts from the Shadowlands expansion), it is nonetheless utilized in a way that makes it look incredibly unique.
The Void theme of this expansion comes through with the dark purple glow on the horn and spine spikes; a glow that isn’t overdone or overwhelming in a way that takes away from the rest of the mount’s design.
Furthermore, the void glow is extremely well-suited to the gold decorations and the darker color scheme of the mount’s skin.
Also, the fact that literal Nerubian webbing is used to keep the gold thigh guards and the saddle in place instead of leather or steel is a super fun touch. In any case, this mount has a chance to drop off Queen Ansurek in Nerub’ar Palace on any difficulty.
3 Smoldering Cinderbee
Hopefully, The Saddle Isn’t Flammable
Mount Type | Flying |
---|---|
How To Get | Renown 23 with Council of Dornogal, costs 11,375 Resonance Crystals |
Formerly, the only bee mount available was the alliance-only Honeyback Harvester from the Battle for Azeroth expansion. Now, the Smoldering Cinderbee finally brings a bee mount for all players to get for themselves with a standard grind of 11,375 Resonance Crystals.
This is long overdue for our Horde friends.
The fiery glow on the Cinderbee is a very clean aesthetic, as even the wings have a magma-like glow to them. There is an alternate appearance to this mount – Raging Cinderbee – but it is noticeably more difficult to obtain for most players due to the PvP meta-achievement required to do so: Ruffious’s Bid.
2 Alunira
You’re A Stormrider Now!
Mount Type | Flying |
---|---|
How To Get | Collect 10 Crackling Shards from any mob in Isle of Dorn, combine into Storm Vessel, and break Alunira’s shield |
Although Alunira doesn’t use a new mount model (the standard Gryphon Skeleton), it is still a very impressive mount visually. The customizable Algarian Stormrider offers a few armored recolors of this mount; however, those are all locked behind a purchase of the War Within Heroic Edition.
This makes Alunira the only one of its kind at the game’s launch that players could obtain without paying for something in the Blizzard store.
Alunira is your standard grind-to-get mount and echoes the Thundering Ruby Cloud Serpent from Alani (who flies around in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms).
In both cases, you must gather 10 of a specific item (Crackling Shard, in Alunira’s case) to break the shield around them so you can kill them and get their guaranteed mount drop. She is flying around the crystal mountain at the western tip of the Isle of Dorn.
1 Delver’s Dirigible
Such Customization Much Wow
Mount Type | Flying |
---|---|
How To Get | Complete the introductory questline to Delves |
The Delver’s Dirigible is the best mount to drop with the release of the War Within, not simply because it’s a really cool adventurer-style plane (of which there are few throughout WoW), but due to its sheer customizability.
One of Dragonflight’s best features was undoubtedly dragon-riding, but not just because of the new dynamic flight; the sheer customizability of the dragon-riding mounts contributed greatly to its success.
The Delver’s Dirigible proudly carried this forward, as it has a plethora of customization options for you to change how it looks to suit your individual aesthetic tastes.
It is the staple mount of the War Within, as it is directly tied to the expansion’s main new feature (Delves), and can be customized at the Rostrum of Transformation in Dornogal.
