If you’ve already fought powerful end-of-chapter bosses in Black Myth Wukong like the Yellow Wind Sage or Yellowbrow, you’ll know that these tend to be some of the sternest tests the game has to offer.
This is something that is equally true of the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, a boss that will serve as the final hurdle between you and chapter five.
This boss is one that is incredibly cinematic, incredibly tough, and if you don’t prepare properly, you’ll have a hellish time trying to beat their lightning stage.
However, with the help of this guide, you should be able to take them down and get one step closer to completing this brutal and punishing title.
How to Prepare For The Hundred Eyed Daoist Master
The Hundred Eyed Daoist Master is a tricky boss, as their health bar is inflated, their hit box is laughable at times, it often feels like your treading through treacle as they zap your stamina, and they hit like a ton of bricks.
That being said, if you prepare accordingly, you can make this fight a hell of a lot easier. Firstly, this is the build that I would suggest for this fight:
While having good gear and stats, by upgrading with Celestial Medicine is always a good call before important boss fights such as this. The most important thing you need for this fight is the Weaver’s Needle.
As without this item, you’ll need to beat this boss and endure their lightning phase, which is one of the most deadly phases of any boss battle in the game.
However, if you take the time to unlock Purple Cloud Mountain and defeat the Duskveil, you’ll gain an item that can completely negate this phase and make the fight a walk in the park by comparison.
If you are super keen on pressing on without this item, I highly recommend you use items that increase your lightning resistance, such as Shock-Quelling Powder .
But, honestly, you’d be much better off doing the side quest on this occasion. If you need a hand, we have a guide that will help you find the Weaver’s Needle.
How To Beat The Hundred Eyed Daoist Master
During the first time you fight against The Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, you’ll have the aid of the spider sisters, and they will chop their health down by about 15%. But let’s assume you died on your first attempt. In which case, you’ll begin your next try, having already chopped off 15% of their health.
When you approach the boss at the second time of asking, they will stand and await you to close the gap, and will then perform a shout to stagger you, preventing you from making the first move. So best thing to do is to use this initial period to use a spell with a long delay, like A Pluck of Many.
You’ll then be thrust into the heat of battle. Generally speaking, the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master uses a series of lightning-powered and slow melee attacks.
These attacks have annoying delays that force you to dodge mindfully rather than spamming the dodge button. So, watch their movements and try to anticipate the impact.
Their more basic attacks include a basic triple slash attack and a leg stomp attack. It’s best to keep attacking during these attacks, and provided you have the skill Composure unlocked, you can keep your combos going while dodging any incoming blows. Then, if you get some finishers off, you find that they stagger rather easily.
They also have access to a poison vomit attack, but this is very easily avoided if you just move behind him or to his side, allowing you to continue your attacks.
At this point, they will likely burrow under the bed of yellow flowers and do one of two things. If you see a crack in the ground working its way toward you, spam dodge and move away, as this means that they will try to perform a grab attack, and this can zap you of half your health, so it’s best avoided.
Then, alternatively, they will do a thrashing tail attack accompanied by poison splashes. This is easily avoided if you dodge their initial attack when they pop out of the ground, and then move away from the area of effect. This ends with a sneak attack, so be wary of this.
They also have access to some powerful lightning charged attacks, such as a lightning strip attack, a charged slash attack. These work relatively similar to their basic melee attacks but cause shock build-up, so be sure to monitor your status bars throughout the fight.
There are a few exceptions here, such as their earth-shattering AOE blast, which is best avoided with a well-timed dodge. Then you also have their lightning projectiles, which, if I’m being honest, I found no good way to dodge consistently, so Cloud Step is your best friend when this occurs.
Then comes the phase change, when The Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master will stab their sword into the dirt and transform the arena into a golden hellscape where you’ll stamina regeneration is hindered, and their attacks seemingly never end.
Let the first part of this segment play out, where they will attack twice. Then, a cutscene will play. After this scene, use the Weaver’s Needle Vessel, which will prematurely end this phase, reverting them back to their state in phase one. This will likely allow you to win the fight with too little fuss.
Aside from the Weaver’s Needle, the key to winning this one is to dodge intentionally and use your spells to stagger the boss while also carving out moments to heal in safety.
Plus, it’s imperative that don’t waste time attacking the boss in areas that don’t line up with their hitbox, so try to ensure your attacks are actually landing, or you’ll waste stamina, spells and opportunities if you don’t.
Rewards For Defeating The One Eyed Daoist Master
If you manage to defeat the Hundred Eyed Daoist Master, you’ll earn the following rewards for your efforts:
The standout reward for completing the chapter, as usual, is the Relic, the Envious tongue. This relic offers the following perk options:
Perk | Description |
---|---|
Refreshing Taste | After consuming medicine, increases the Critical Hit Chance of the next attack. |
Spread The Word | Immobilize affects all enemies around the target. |
Tongue of a Connoisseur | Each equipped Soak slightly increases the Health recovery of the Drink. |
Then, you also gain access to crafting materials that will allow you to craft new weapons and armor, such as the Visionary Centipede Staff and the Centipede Qiang-Jin Armor . Both of which will aid you as you brave the perils that chapter five has in store for you.
