Miami’s new 2025 commit was massive summer stock riser, analysts say

Analysts say that this summer on the AAU circuit, 2025 four-star shooting guard Matthew Able was one of the country’s biggest stock risers. The top-40 national prospect has decided on his future collegiate destination.

On Friday, the 6-foot-5 Able elected to remain in the Sunshine State for college, as he verbally committed to Atlantic Coast Conference school Miami in a big-time get for head coach Jim Larrañaga and his staff to kick off their 2025 recruiting cycle.

According to media reports, Able picked the Hurricanes over other finalists, Northwestern, Wake Forest, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Xavier and Baylor.

Able is a standout rising senior at the Sagemont Preparatory School in Weston, Fla., near Fort Lauderdale.

According to high school basketball experts, Able was solid in the spring, averaging around 10 points per contest for the 17U team of the Florida-based Austin Rivers SE Elite in the Adidas 3SSB league.

This past July at the 3SSB championships in Rock Hill, S.C., Able turned it up a notch, averaging 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game while connecting on 54.3 percent from beyond the arc. For those efforts, the experts at The Circuit named him their breakout MVP.

Adam Finkelstein, the director of scouting for 247Sports, wrote in a recent piece: “The summer of 2024 was when Able announced his arrival as a top national prospect. After a somewhat pedestrian spring, he took on a more signature role in July and really rose to the occasion.”

“Able was one of the biggest risers this spring and summer, skyrocketing up the rankings from outside of the top 150 up into the top 75,” Travis Branham, a 247Sports national analyst, added. “However, it’s unlikely that Able is done rising yet. His size, length, athleticism, shot-making, and improving floor game are all impressive and while he’s an impact player right now in high school, his best basketball is still ahead of him.”

247Sports places Able at No. 64 around the country within the 2025 class. When fellow recruiting service On3 refreshed its national rankings not too long ago, Able vaulted to No. 38 overall and the No. 11 shooting guard.

In recently handing out superlatives for the 2025 class in a post via his X account, ESPN recruiting director Paul Biancardi characterized Able as the “most improved” prospect in his cycle.

“Able is a long, athletic guard who makes an impact on both ends of the floor,” Recruiting insider Sam Kayser of 24/7 High School Hoops posted on X. “Has great defensive upside and is a knockdown shooter on the offensive end.”

All in all, Miami has scored a solid first verbal pledge in its 2025 recruiting cycle.
