Rocket League is by far one of the most prominent and enduring competitive multiplayer games out there. However, it’s painfully obvious that the game is not easy, having a very steep learning curve. While training packs can get you to a good skill level, the Workshop has a vast library of maps that may be much better for improving.
You can easily find a Workshop Map for just about anything you want to do in Rocket League, whether it is for training or messing around with your friends. However, with the removal of Rocket League from Steam after Epic Games bought the game, the process for downloading Workshop maps has become a bit complicated, to say the least. Fret not, as here is an extensive guide on playing Workshop Maps on Epic Games and Steam launcher. Plus, a handful of map recommendations to get you started if you are new.
Although Rocket League is cross-play, the ability to play Workshop Maps is limited to PC only. Unfortunately, console and Switch players can’t play Workshop Maps.
What Are Workshop Maps In Rocket League?
Workshop Maps are essentially custom maps made by the community. One could draw parallels between Training Packs and Workshop Maps, but they are quite different.
Firstly, Workshop Maps are available to PC players only. Secondly, Workshop maps are fully customized maps designed or coded by other players, whereas training packs are mostly practice shots lined up from different angles on the field.
Workshop Maps have a lot more freedom when it comes to design. That is why you can find a Workshop Map for just about anything you want to do in Rocket League. The workshop has allowed players to create maps like Rings and Floor is Lava, for example.
To draw comparisons, it’s like the UEFN in Fortnite.

How To Play Rocket League Workshop Maps On Epic Games
For newer players who started playing Rocket League when it became a free-to-play game, chances are you have the game on Epic Games. This means that accessing the Steam Workshop is not conventionally possible, as the game is not available on Steam any more.
While you could try porting the game over Steam, the whole process is very complicated and chances are you might have to download the game again (if it even works).
However, there is a better and simpler way of playing Rocket League Workshop Maps on Epic Games. That is by using Bakkesmod.
For those unfamiliar with it, Bakkesmod is a quality-of-life mod for Rocket League. It offers a bunch of neat features that make the overall Rocket League experience better.
Yes, the Rocket League anti-cheat allows it, so you can play Ranked with it (although some features will be disabled). The entire process of using this mod to allow Workshop Map functionality is broken down into three steps:
Downloading Bakkesmod and Workshop Loader Plugin
- To do this, first download and install Bakkesmod from its official website.
- Next, download the Bakkesmod Plugin for Workshop Maps. You can find it on the Bakkesmod Plugins website.
- Just click Install Plugin on the website, and a pop-up will appear saying “Open plugininstaller.exe.” click “Open” and it will automatically install. If that doesn’t work, download the plugin files manually and paste them into Bakkesmod’s plugin folder.
Preparing the Plugin for Map Downloads
- Next, launch Bakkesmod, and from the top nav bar go to File> Open Bakkesmod Folder.
- There, create a new folder named anything you wish and copy its file path.
- Now, open Bakkesmod and then launch Rocket League.
- In the game, press F2 to open the Bakkesmod menu.
- Head over to the Plugins tab from the top, then select Workshop Map Loader from the plugins on the left.
- Click on Open Plugin Window.
- In the new window, paste the file path you copied and add a forward slash “/” at the end of it.
Download Maps
- In the same window, you will find a tab called Search Workshop. Click on it, find the map you want to play, and hit download.
- All you need to do now is click on the map and you can play it. If it doesn’t show up, just hit Refresh.
The setup at the beginning can be a bit of a hassle. However, after you have set up Bakkesmod and the plugin, all you then need to do is use the plugin to download your favorite maps and take your best Rocket League cars for a spin.
