Although she didn’t capture the title, Liberty center Jonquel Jones put on a show for the Phoenix crowd Friday night with her performance in the 2024 WNBA Three-Point Contest.
Jones, who shot 40.4 percent from three in the first half of the 2024 season, was the top shooter in the first round. She posted 25 points, besting the four other competitors which included Washington Mystics center Stefanie Dolson, Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray, Connecticut Sun guard Marina Mabrey and Minnesota Lynx guard Kayla McBride.
The 2021 WNBA MVP went up against Gray in the final round. After Gray posted 22 points, Jones was a two-point money ball shot short on her final shot from becoming the first WNBA post player to capture the title.
Gray’s victory would be history-making as she became the first player to win the Skills and Three-Point contest on the same night.
Jones also made the Three-Point Contest finals in 2021, but fell to Allie Quigley-Jones.
