Star Wars Outlaws’ promotional campaign impressed gamers during Ubisoft’s Summer Game Fest showcase, but a recent 10-minute preview seemed like a downgrade to followers, but the publisher is promising high-quality content to come before release day. Inspired by Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Outlaws is expected to be a fun videogame staple in the epic space franchise.
Devs have also been teasing the game’s GTA-styled wanted system that will provide difficult challenges for players who hope to outrun the Empire and the various Syndicates populating the open world’s expanse. Kay Vess is an intriguing new character at the helm, but gamers are becoming anxious after seeing more gameplay containing below-par visuals.

Hands-On Preview: Star Wars Outlaws Is More Than Just Space Uncharted
I’ve got a GOOD feeling about this.
An exclusive 10-minute preview was recently showcased by IGN, following Kay on a brand-new mission navigating a Sarlacc pit and infiltrating a bandit camp. The preview received a wave of negative comments on social media criticizing the “outdated” visuals and “empty” environments, combined with more feedback on textures, cutscenes, and stealth maneuvers.
In response to the feedback, Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet told PC Gamer, “We’ll shortly be seeing more content of very high quality and multiple hours that will really show the depths of the open world that is a key element of the promise to enjoy the exploration of the galaxy with multiple planets, so that should bode well for the game in terms of high-quality delivery.”
Targeting fans’ comments directly relating to the poor graphics quality seen in the preview, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot weighed in saying, “As we’ve said also for Star Wars, the level of quality of the world and the experience is really very high.” The publisher believes fans will be happy with the final product when it is released next month, and Guillemot added “We are really leveraging our engine, and I think people will love it.”
When asked about the possibility of delaying Outlaws past its August release date, taking into account the disappointing response to the lengthy preview, Duguet said “The game has gone gold, so the date is well confirmed for August 30.”
Considering the amount of negative feedback being thrown at a key piece of footage used to promote the upcoming game, Ubisoft must be confident in Outlaws’ final product and the supposedly high-quality footage in the pipeline.
Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled for release on August 30, 2024.
