Highlights
- Lara Croft joins Dead By Daylight with unique perks, helping her run faster and escape killers without her traditional weapons.
- Some players were shocked to discover Croft’s British accent in the game, despite her 30-year career as a world-renowned archaeologist.
- Lara’s introduction to the game sparked surprise and emotional reactions from gamers who never realized she was British until they heard her in Dead by Daylight.
As if she hasn’t been through enough already by trying not to die in a plane crash and running from cult members in the Tomb Raider games, poor Lara Croft is now fighting for her life in Dead By Daylight’s latest update as a survivor. Although she won’t have her trusty twin pistols or bow with her, she does enter the arena with unique perks that will help her run and jump faster and use her already hardened skills to escape the killer.
Following in the footsteps of Alan Wake, Nicolas Cage, Ellen Ripley, and Vecna, to mention only a few, Croft will be the latest addition to the online horror/survival game. With a career as a world-renowned archaeologist since 1996, it seems as though that iconic Croft accent that has been around for almost 30 years, may have slipped the minds of some gamers who really had no clue that she was from England.

Dead by Daylight has plenty of survivors you can play. While running from the game’s impressive roster of killers, you’ll want use the best available.
I’ll try to remain as impartial as possible, but I’m sorry, I can’t help asking the obvious question here: how the hell are there still people existing who didn’t know Lara Croft was British? Granted, in Tomb Raider’s earlier titles, Croft wasn’t packed with dialogue and did more grunting than anything else, but she still throw out the odd one-liner and, at the very least, enough to pick up on that quintessential English accent.
But, alas, it seems as though it took Dead By Daylight’s introduction of Lara’s vocab for some players to finally realize she wasn’t American, or Spanish, or wherever the heck they thought she was from. In a post on Twitter/X, user basicbarbiez started the whole thing off when they tweeted how Lara Croft had quite a lot of voice lines and interactions in Dead By Daylight. In the comment section, far too many people stated that they had no idea she was British until they heard her accent in the newest update.
“SHE’S BRITISH?” a commenter cried out in caps, presumably in utter shock, while another stated that they “FORGOT SHE’S BRITISH OMG JUMPSCARE”. But the good times don’t stop there folks, as another emotional comment said they were “crying” because “she’s so British”.
It seems like Croft, who has busted her ass for 30 years beating up bad guys, uncovering important treasures, saving the world from disaster, and appearing in a stack of movies, still has her work cut out for her when it comes to showcasing her “Britishness.” In the meantime, players can get stuck into Dead by Daylight’s Lara update on July 16, but if you can’t wait until then, the public test build is available now until July 1 via Steam.
