Having a strong season for the Yankees, designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton hit a speed bump on Sunday when the decorated slugger was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. Infielder Oswald Peraza was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in his stead.
Television replays showed Stanton appearing to wince between third base and home as he scored on Gleyber Torres’ fourth-inning double in the Yankees’ 8-3 win over the visiting Braves.
Stanton had enjoyed a relatively healthy season to this point, playing in 69 of the Yankees’ first 79 games. He has slashed .246/.302/.492 with 18 homers (tied for ninth in the Major Leagues) and 45 RBIs.
Stanton, 34, has hit 153 home runs in parts of seven seasons since being acquired from the Marlins following the 2017 season, but he has been limited by injuries, playing more than 110 games just twice.
Peraza, who has spent time with the Yankees in each of the previous two seasons, has hit .180 with four homers and 14 RBIs in 35 games spread across three levels of the Minors in 2024.
