Boxing Tonight: Tank Vs. Martin On PBC On Prime Video PPV – Live Results

Gervonta ‘Tank Davis puts his perfect record on the line against Frank Martin in a lightweight title fight tonight in Las Vegas. Martin, 29, is coming to Dethrone, the Baltimore native Tank, in this clash, and it will be interesting to see if he can pull off the upset.

David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) got off to a winning track in his debut at light heavyweight, defeating former WBC 175-lb champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-2, 16 KOs) by a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision. The scores were:

– 119-109

Benavidez faded after six rounds and was dominated in rounds 7-12 by Gvozdyk, the busier fighter of the two. The fight should have been a draw, but the judges scored it for the star.

Alberto Puello (23-0, 10 KOs) beat Gary Antuanne Russell (17-1, 17 KOs) by a 12 round split decision to win the WBC interim light welterweight title. The scores were 118-109 for Antuanne Russell, 115-112, and 114-113 for Puello.

It was interesting how the judge that had it for Russell could have had it so wide because it was a close fight, and Puello got the better of the action with his superior boxing skills. Russell, who came into the fight unbeaten, got exposed tonight.

Making his first defense of his WBC middleweight title, champion Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KOs) outslugged the light-hitting veteran Terrell Gausha (24-4-1, 12 KOs) to win a 12-round unanimous decision. The judges’ scores were 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110.

Gausha was at his best early, landing a lot of jabs and right hands, but without much power behind them.

Adames started picking up steam from the sixth round, connecting with hard single shots to dominate the action in the second half. He was missing many punches but still connected enough to get a clear decision.

Super middleweight Kyrone Davis (18-3-1, 6 KOs) pulled off an upset ten-round split decision win over Elijah Garcia (16-1, 13 KOs) in a fight that could have gone the other way.

The 21-year-old Garcia was the busier fighter of the two, landing the bigger, better shots against a very looking Kyrone. The scores were  99-93, 97-93 for Davis, and 98-92 for Garcia. This writer had Elijah winning the fight eight rounds to two.

Benavidez Steps Up to Light Heavyweight

David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) takes a risky step up in class fighting at light heavyweight, seeking the WBC interim 175-lb title against the former world champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KOs) in the 12-round chief support bout on tonight’s card.

This is a calculated risk on Benavidez’s part, choosing to leave the safe waters of the 168-lb division to swim with the sharks at 175 with hopes of picking up that bag.

Benavidez is popular enough to headline his card, but he’s been packaged with Tank Davis to ensure the success of tonight’s card on PBC on Prime Video PPV.

Gvozdyk will determine whether Benavidez has any future at 175. As it’s a new weight class, there are many questions about whether he’s the real deal or just another one of the many fighters who has become overconfident, drunk on past successes.

After Benavidez’s previous venture into the pay-per-view market last November, placing him on the undercard was a safer bet than the main event.
