Minecraft‘s brand-new 1.21 update, known more commonly as ‘The Tricky Trials’ update, was released yesterday. While most fans were jumping into all of the new content that arrived with the update, others quickly picked up on a new option in the game’s settings that suggests a native PlayStation 5 version is on the way.
The Tricky Trials update adds a whole host of new content to the popular sandbox game, including new decorative blocks, hostile mobs, items, weapons, paintings, and the trial chambers – a sprawling structure stuffed with traps and treasures for players to discover. The update is available to download now on both the Java and Bedrock versions of Minecraft.

Minecraft 1.21 Looks Great, So Why The Backlash?
I’m still upset about the Iceologer not winning three years ago.
Back in December, developer Mojang Studios quietly added a new “next-gen” feature to the Xbox Series X|S version of Minecraft. While this wasn’t a native release, the update finally allowed for 4K support on the newer consoles, as reported by WindowsCentral. This feature was welcomed, but it wasn’t exactly the native version that fans were hoping for.
With 120FPS support, ray-tracing, and more still being begged for by fans, it was starting to look like a current-gen version would never see the light of day…until now.
Minecraft May Finally Be Getting A Native PS5 Version
Following the release of Minecraft’s Tricky Trials update yesterday, one fan took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a new discovery. In the game’s settings, Mojang Studios appears to have added a ‘PlayStation 5 Preview’ button. The button currently does nothing when selected, but the preview option allows players to “experience the latest and greatest upcoming Minecraft features and provide feedback to the Mojang team,” according to the description.
While this is far from confirmation that a PlayStation 5 version of Minecraft is in the works, it is just the latest in a long line of rumours and leaks. Back in March, PlayStation Game Size, a reliable account that tracks backend details on the PlayStation 4 and 5, announced via X that PS5 version of Minecraft was on the way.
It’s looking like there’s a strong chance that a native current-gen version of Minecraft is finally on the way, but fans eager to see the game hit Steam were given false hope earlier this week when a fake listing appeared on the storefront. More details on the story right here.
