UFC 303 marks the UFCs International fight week blockbuster card, which we expect to be headlined by Conor McGregor‘s return against Michael Chandler. With that being said, that fight is in jeopardy so who knows who may headline the card.

Michael Venom Page

One of the UFC’s newest stars, Michael Venom Page clashes with one of the most polarising figures in the UFC, Ian Garry. MVP debuted at UFC 299 in a unanimous decision victory over Kevin Holland. His karate style makes him a difficult style for anyone to work out. His in and out style makes him hard to land on and even harder to pin down, especially over 15 minutes.

It’s a style that Garry hasn’t come across yet in his UFC career and his last opponent, Geoff Neal is essentially a boxer. We’ve seen that Garry can do damage with leg kicks, as he did against Neil Magny, however, don’t expect them to be effective against Page.

Page’s style benefits the three round distance as he can easily outpoint an opponent for 10 minutes before navigating the final round. Jabbing his way in and out of range with his looping back hands will likely win him this fight.

Macy Chaisson

Macy Chiasson clashes with Mayra Bueno Silva and has a great opportunity to get a former title challenger’s name on her record. Chiasson got back in the win column last time out with a performance of the night winning submission over Pannie Kianzad.

As for Bueno Silva, she got outpointed in a title fight against Raquel Pennington over five rounds at UFC 297. In that fight, despite starting well, she massively gassed out which lost her the fight and consequently the bantamweight strap.

If Chiasson can utilise her superior size to lean on her Brazilian counterpart, she can look to gas her out again. Chiasson won The Ultimate Fighter at featherweight and Silva has previously competed down at flyweight, so expect the American to be the bigger woman in there at UFC 303. Chiasson is bigger, with a longer reach and has shown a well rounded game. Betting on her as an underdog will possibly see great returns.

Carlos Ulberg

Short notice opponent, Carlos Ulberg steps into the UFC 303 with little to no pressure on his shoulders. He’s the replacement fighter, stepping in to face the UFC 300 headliner and former champion. A man who is ranked #3 in the division takes on #11. On paper, Hill should get back in the win column. As we know, fights aren’t fought on paper, they’re fought in the octagon.

How are the demons of that brutal knockout and viral moment going to play on the mind of Jamahal Hill as he steps back inside the octagon. Let’s not forget, the fight only went down in April. He would have had a medical suspension as a result of the knockout, so how well trained is he? The achilles injury that forced him to relinquish his title could have played a factor in his recent loss and could still be bothering him now.

We know a fighter is only as good as their last performance and Ulberg’s was certainly impressive. He extended his winning streak to six straight (including five straight finishes) by knocking out Alonzo Meinfield in just 12 seconds. As a stand-up fighter and former Kickboxing champion, there isn’t going to be much that he hasn’t seen before, especially from Hill, a boxer with a minimal range of kicking.

Ulberg as the underdog is a great pick.
