As a longtime fan of the Transformers franchise, I am eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming video game, Transformers: Reactivate. The anticipation is heightened by recent leaks revealing which Cybertronians will be playable and which voice actors will be bringing these characters to life.

Like the Transformers themselves, these games are more than meets the eye!
Sadly, it seems my wait will be even longer than expected.
A Slow “Roll Out”
Set to initially release in 2024, this game was meant to arrive just in time for the franchise’s 40th anniversary, promising a celebratory year filled with new comics, toys, and other exciting products. Having grown up with Transformers as a source of strength and consistency, I can’t wait to see how this new game will capture the essence of the beloved series.
I’ve been following the news about Transformers: Reactivate closely. A leak from Tformers.com detailed which Transformers will be part of the initial cast. This includes familiar faces like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Soundwave, and Starscream, along with some other surprises.
Eight Autobots and six Decepticons have been confirmed, with more likely to be added through DLC. Notable voice actors such as Jon Bailey, Robbie Dymond, and Jameson Price are on board, promising to bring these characters to life in a way that stays true to the franchise’s legacy.
The game’s development journey has been long, starting in 2017 and evolving through various stages, including a working title, “Transformers: Rise.” Now, Transformers: Reactivate is shaping up to be an online multiplayer game where Transformers ally with the human military to combat an alien threat. It’s also been buried in silence.
Cybertronian Chronicles
Growing up, Transformers was more than just a show to me; it was a source of strength and consistency when my life was anything but. When my mom went to college for computer programming and couldn’t afford to have me and my sister with her, we lived with our grandparents. Weekends with her were precious but fleeting, and Transformers, with its themes of perseverance and heroism, became my anchor.
Many nights were spent in tears; being away from my mom was an unfamiliar and painful experience. As a single mom, she had always been my rock, but circumstances forced us apart. My grandparents, who I later discovered struggled with drug addiction, provided a less-than-ideal environment. Despite the chaos, the show aired during the week, just before school started. I rushed through my morning routine, eager to catch those fleeting moments of solace in front of the TV.
The War for Cybertron storyline delves deep into the complexities of leadership through the character of Optimus Prime. Elita One challenges Optimus to end the war by embracing humility and surrendering his need to win. This lesson underscores the importance of humility and growth, qualities that ultimately make Optimus worthy of the Matrix. In my own life, I have seen the value of these lessons firsthand. As an educator, I strive to listen, care, and empower others, recognizing my own mistakes and adapting as needed.

Rise of the Beasts is taking the Transformers franchise in a new, exciting direction.
One aspect of the War for Cybertron storyline that I particularly appreciated was the opportunity to play both sides of the conflict. While traditionally I’ve aligned myself with the heroic Autobots, being able to experience the Decepticon perspective forced me to empathize with the ‘bad guys.’ It made me sensitive to their struggles and thoughts, highlighting the complexity of their motivations and the shades of gray in their actions. This experience taught me the importance of understanding different perspectives and appreciating the nuances of character and circumstance, both in fiction and in real life.
Transformative Gameplay
Reflecting on my experiences with previous Transformers video games, I remember the joy and excitement of playing Transformers: War for Cybertron and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. These games offered a compelling story, providing a fresh take on Transformers lore, particularly for the War for Cybertron era. They fleshed out the backstory of familiar characters and delivered a high-stakes narrative that resonated with me as a fan.
The gameplay was incredibly satisfying, offering a third-person shooter experience that truly captured the essence of transforming robots. I loved seamlessly switching between robot and vehicle modes in the heat of battle. The developers showed a clear understanding and appreciation for the Transformers universe, evident in the character designs, environments, and overall tone of the games.
Multiplayer was another highlight. War for Cybertron had a well-received co-op mode, while Fall of Cybertron offered a competitive multiplayer mode that extended the games’ lifespan. Even without my friends being into it, I had a lot of fun just jumping into the multiplayer and turning on the soundtrack to the movies, which are some of my favorite soundtracks of all time. I was able to live that fantasy of being a Transformer in the best way possible.
Building Blocks Of Nostalgia
Recently, I was inspired by a student I mentored to delve into Transformers Legos, particularly a 1500-piece character. This project symbolizes my childhood and my work with struggling kids. As a teacher, I see myself as a Transformer, guiding and shaping young minds to transform into better versions of themselves.
This nostalgic connection with Transformers brings back memories of creativity, problem-solving, and the joy of collaboration through building and playing with Transformers and Legos. These experiences inspire me to connect with others and foster meaningful relationships.
The anticipation for Transformers: Reactivate extends beyond just a new game; it’s about rediscovering a franchise that has profoundly influenced my life. The themes of leadership, humility, and collaboration in the War for Cybertron storyline deeply resonate with my own journey. As I eagerly await the game’s release, I’m excited not only to embark on new adventures in single-player mode but also to join fellow fans in multiplayer, where we can share our passion for Transformers and create new memories together.
