Elden Ring‘s combat system is a continuation of the Souls series’ incredible difficulty. There are many different damage types and status effects, making it impossible to have a perfectly resistant character while also fighting against enemies that present the same issue. While it can make combat difficult when an enemy targets your weakness, it can be used to make even the most difficult bosses a walk in the park.
Elden Ring: Best Build For Wing Of Astel
Here’s the best way to create a character around Wings Of Astel in Elden Ring.
Of all the status effects in the game, bleed is by far the most notorious. While it may take a bit to build up, it does a percentage of the enemy’s health in damage, quickly bringing down even the spongiest of bosses. While many weapons naturally cause bleed build-up, players are able to reforge weapons to cause bleed or use specific Ashes of War that cause bleed.

How To Find The Bloody Slash Ash Of War
This Ash of War is very powerful and can be obtained incredibly early in the game as it is located in Limgrave. Head to the eastern side of the continent to Fort Haight, which is a small castle players are able to clear out and complete to finish the side quest for Kenneth Haight. Before entering the fort, it should also be noted there is a Golden Seed along the right outer side of the fort.
Inside the fort is relatively small, with the central courtyard being the largest area. Clear the courtyard and head to the left side to find a ramp allowing players to climb up to the upper walls. Here, you’ll see a larger Godrick Knight, who will begin charging you once you reach the top of the ramp. Defeat this stronger knight for it to drop the Bloody Slash Ash Of War. Heading further into the fort after defeating this enemy will have you find the Dectus Medallion (left).
Using The Bloody Slash Ash Of War
This Ash of War can be equipped on any sword that can be enhanced with Ashes of War, with the only exception being colossal swords. This skill costs 6 FP to use and will drain a small percentage of your own health to coat your sword in your own blood. While this may be a dark idea for a skill, the subsequent damage and bleed build-up is incredibly useful. The damage from this skill scales directly from your arcane stat and is an excellent choice for early-game arcane builds.
Once a weapon is infused with this ash of war, it will also gain the Blood affinity, dealing bleed build-up and scaling its damage from your arcane stat. Once a weapon has the blood affinity, its scaling from your other stats will lower, not making this ideal for builds that focus on different stats than arcane. While the skill itself can be a double-edged sword, the damage output on your enemies will always greatly outweigh the damage you take.
