It comes as no surprise that The Witcher fans aren’t too pleased about Liam Hemsworth taking over from Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Although Cavill never did state the reason he put down his sword as the mighty The White Wolf, he did say in 2021 that he found it difficult to find a “balance between the showrunners’ vision and my love for the books,” in which he also asked for changes to Geralt’s arc in season two.
As we prepare to witness Hemsworth take the reins in season four of the Netflix show sometime in 2025, Freya Allan, who plays the equally almighty Ciri, rushes to her co-star’s defense amid criticism and disappointment.
The Witcher’s Freya Allan Says Ciri Will Be “Brutal” In Season 5
The Witcher’s Freya Allan teases that there are big changes for Ciri in season 5 and they might not be the healthiest.
Freya Allan Becomes Hemsworth’s Champion
Speaking to Inverse about her upcoming starring role in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the 22-year-old talked about the dramatic changes Ciri will go through in seasons four and five of The Witcher. As well as this, it looks as though Hemsworth has a much-needed friend in Allan as she becomes his champion at the time he needs it most. When fans found out Cavill was leaving The Witcher, all hell broke loose as the beloved character revealed that he would be hanging up his boots and that Liam Hemsworth would be slipping into those iconic black leather pants.
Standing by her co-star, Allan said that she felt bad for Hemsworth taking on such a big, already established role and wanted to make sure he felt like he was “part of the family”. “He’s so sweet and just such a normal guy and so willing to connect,” Allan expresses. “And I feel bad for him because he’s had so much weight and pressure on his shoulders, joining a new cast as one of the leads and replacing someone else who’s already done three seasons. It’s a lot. It’s been important for the rest of us to really make him feel that he’s a part of the family.”
In October 2022, Hemsworth couldn’t wait to squeeze himself into Geralt’s massive boots as he took to Instagram to tell the world that he was the chosen one to carry on the White Wolf’s legacy. “As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia” Hemsworth expressed. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”
As for now, we don’t know what’s in store for The Witcher season 4 as it’s still in production but just like the backlash Bella Ramsey received for her role as Ellie in HBO’s The Last of Us, he could surprise us and bring a completely new take on our beloved Geralt. Only time will tell as we await its release in the summer of 2025.
