Bohemia Interactive has announced a brand-new expansion for the post-apocalyptic online survival shooter titled DayZ Frostline. Based on an Arma 2 mod, DayZ takes place in Chernarus, therefore, fans expect and receive frequent crossovers with the massive military sandbox. However, Frostline’s new map is shaping up to be a disappointment in players’ eyes.
Scheduled to launch in Fall 2024 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, the announcement trailer for Frostline boasted a frosty new setting in the Sakhal archipelago spanning 32 square miles and offering volcanic ranges, industrial facilities, and several tundra-based animals to hunt. The snowy terrain is taking centerstage within DayZ’s first paid expansion since 2019’s Livonia map without a whisper of zombies (although we’re sure there’ll be some).

It appears as though Arma 4 isn’t Bohemia’s only upcoming title.
“Snowy Tanoey” Becomes Frostline’s Unofficial Title
Once the announcement footage had dropped, DayZ survivors wasted no time being friendly, and instead, went straight for Bohemia’s jugular to rename Frostline’s map “Snowy Tanoey”. The player base believes this expansion is nothing more than a “reworked Tanoa port” from Arma 3, which was terrain previously rumored to be arriving within the zombie shooter this year.
One dissatisfied player said “…I can’t believe they made such a boring choice, completely outdated assets with no novelty. I won’t buy a new map, it’s not attractive to me.” Others called the reveal “overhyped” and “mundane”, adding to the expansion’s bitter reception. Additionally, Frostline’s map was considered a fusion of Tanoa’s terrain, with concepts from Namalsk and Arma 3 assets sprinkled in for good measure.
Despite the team offering untouched terrain, harsher survival mechanics, new environmental hazards, and seasonal cosmetics to dive into, the DayZ community remains underwhelmed by the content on offer, with some even refusing to entertain the projected under $30 price tag – the full cost of the expansion is still to be confirmed.
The main takeaway from Frostline’s debut was players’ disbelief that this was a paid expansion, stating $30 is too much for a map DLC. Ultimately, the player pool would have preferred a host of new add-ons instead of recycled terrain and mechanics, but some did agree that the expansion’s inspiration from Tanoa would provide a good base for community maps.
It’s not all chilly in Chernarus, however, as a handful of DayZ explorers are keen to venture into the frostbite and hopeful this expansion will grow more unique and exciting in time.
