6’9″ Riley Abercrombie granted immediate eligibility for 2020-2021 season

Rice men’s basketball coach Scott Pera announced Friday afternoon that 6’9″ transfer Riley Abercrombie’s waiver was approved by the NCAA, making him immediately eligible to play during the 2020-21 season.
Abercrombie, a 6’9″ forward, joins the Owls after spending the last two years at Boise State. After redshirting as a freshman, he played in 18 games last season, scoring 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He had his best game against Fresno State, scoring six points on a pair of three-pointers.
Abercrombie, who is a native of Wollongong, Australia, played his high school basketball at Clear Lake High School in Houston. He averaged 12.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as a senior, helping the Falcons to a 31-6 record and a berth in the quarterfinals of the UIL 6A Texas State Tournament. As a junior, he averaged 10.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, aiding Clear Lake to a 24-9 mark.

Abercrombie joins Mylyjael Poteat (6’9″, 260, Reidsville, NC), Cameron Sheffield (6’6″, 180, Alpharetta, GA) Noah Hutchins (6’1″, 160, Buffalo, NY), and Travis Evee (6’0″, 165, Virginia Military Institute) as part of the 2020-21 class.
