The first time that Ryan Nembhard was named on this award’s watch list was back in 2022 with the Creighton Bluejays. This is the second year in a row as a Gonzaga Bulldog that he was mentioned as one of the top point guards heading into the season.
Last season with the Zags, Nembhard averaged 12.6 PPG, 6.9 APG (8th most in the nation), 4.0 RPG and 1.2 SPG. The 6’0 senior will be joining these other 2024 candidates:
Mark Sears – Alabama
Jeremy Roach – Baylor
Tyrese Proctor – Duke
Walter Clayton, Jr. – Florida
Malik Mack – Georgetown
Myles Rice – Indiana
Tamin Lipsey – Iowa State
Dajuan Harris – Kansas
Josh Hubbard – Mississippi State
Elliot Cadeau – North Carolina
Markus Burton – Notre Dame
Bruce Thornton – Ohio State
Ace Baldwin, Jr. – Penn State
Braden Smith – Purdue
Dylan Harper – Rutgers
Zakai Zeigler – Tennessee
Jordan Pope – Texas
Wade Taylor IV – Texas A&M
Elijah Hawkins – Texas Tech
Unfortunately, both of his partners in the backcourt were left off the Jerry West Award watch list. Nolan Hickman and Khalif Battle are heading into the season considered to not be in the Top 20 out of the shooting guard position. That’s doesn’t mean both or one of the Zags can be named to midseason watch list.
