Key Takeaways
- Trademarking of “White Flare” and “Black Bolt” hint at a Black and White Pokémon remake.
- Nintendo tends to trademark characters and pokémon before new releases, which fueled the initial speculations.
- The game could be released in 2025, but we can’t say this for sure.
Yesterday, we learned that a trio of Game Freak, Nintendo, and Creatures trademarked the names “White Flare,” “Black Bolt,” and “Hot Air Arena.”
This news started a massive rumor mill within the community, indicating that a Pokémon Black and White remake is on the horizon.
This news isn’t anything new; we’ve been receiving rumors about the potential remake for quite a while now.
Gamers have been known to concoct over-the-top theories with each new entry to the Pokémon franchise. Sometimes, just adding a new pokémon or character would be enough to start Internet-wide speculations.
Truth be told, even DualShocker’s team was responsible for boosting the hype on several occasions. I guess we want it a little too much.
Is Black/White Really On The Horizon?
All of this might sound like a coincidence for those disengaged from the Pokemon TCG scene.
However, if you check the previous Pokémon release trends, you’ll notice that Nintendo has a habit of licensing certain characters, moves, and pokémon six to eight months before each release.
For example, this happened with the Battle Partners set, which was trademarked in July and is set to release on January 24th, 2025.
The same goes with trademarking “The Glory of Team Rocket,” which was soon followed by the Team Rocket return teaser.
The elephant in the room is the use of the words black and white in “White Flare” and “Black Bolt.” There’s also an indication these might be related to the legendary pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom.
While this might be a fluke coincidence, the fact Nintendo is making sets for these two particular dragon-types at this specific time is more than indicative.
As for the “Hot Air Arena,” this one is a bit more mind-boggling. For example, there might be a connection with Volcarona’s Heat Wave Attack and, thus, Heat Wave Arena, which is a stone’s throw away from Hot Air Arena.
Nevertheless, none of these names are related to Pokémon Legends: Z-A. So, we might presume that if Black and White comes out, it will be in the latter portion of 2025.
