Gerrit Cole leaves start vs. Rangers with injury

ARLINGTON — Yankees starter Gerrit Cole exited his start in Monday’s 8-4 win over the Rangers as he was warming up to pitch the seventh inning at Globe Life Field. Cole grabbed his right calf area during his warmups before heading to the dugout under his own power.

The Yankees announced Cole exited with a right calf cramp, and would be “monitored and reassessed” on Tuesday.

Cole had been terrific all night, allowing one run over his first six frames, retiring the final nine batters he faced. He struck out nine and walked one. Cole has not pitched more than six innings in a start this season.

The right-hander, who missed the first 75 games of the season with right elbow inflammation, was making his 13th start of the campaign.

Reliever Luke Weaver took over after Cole’s departure, with New York up 7-1.
