How To Solve The Mystic Woods Puzzle On Crystalis

You’ve finally launched free of Erros—DreamCore’s “we have Earth at home” planet—and are free to explore other planets in Beyond Galaxyland. So long, nature preserve for the human species!

Three planets are available for you to explore: forested Crystalis, glacial Arcos, and DreamCore’s capital city-planet Neo. Sure, there’s also volcanic Juno on the map, but … you’re not ready for that. Not yet, anyway.

Don’t go to Juno.

Yet when you set down on Crystalis, you’re greeted with overgrown plants and a tree that warps you all over the place. Don’t worry—we can help you navigate the forest and reach the settlement of Moonfall.

Entering the Mystic Woods

You can visit Crystalis any time after you’ve completed The Water Temple quest and the (admittedly trivial) Finally Moving quest on Erros. Once your pilot and engineer, Meela, powers up your spaceship, the next destination is yours to pick.

Scoot your spaceship over to purple Crystalis and land. You’ll be put down in the middle of the planet’s Mystic Woods, and the quest The Hidden Village begins automatically.

The Mystic Woods Puzzle

That’s odd … isn’t there supposed to be a knight statue here?

Getting here was easy, but navigating the forest can be a real pain in the neck. West of the central clearing you’ll find a white tree with three blue apples on it.

When you approach the tree, it warps you to a section of the forest with two exits: one to the left, one to the right.

In an homage to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time—one of the Nintendo 64’s all-time greats—you’ve got to navigate back and forth through identical rooms to journey through the maze.

Fortunately, the map has been sitting in front of you the whole time.

The tree’s branches show the directions required to reach different areas of the maze, and the blue apples show notable locations.

Each time you finish a branch of the warping tree’s puzzle, you’ll find a white glyph. Approach it, and you’ll warp to the Save Point by the knight’s statue if your route was incorrect.

To complete this quest, you’ll need to reach the highest blue apple. The route is pretty simple: left, right, left, right. Do it correctly, and you’ll wind up in a small grove with a glyph identical to the rest.

This time, you’ll get warped to Moonfall, the Pixis’ home settlement on Crystalis. However, your arrival coincides with a rather ominous event … watch the cutscene play out, and discover what threatens the Pixi people!

Treasure In The Forest

As you may have seen, the warping tree has additional blue apples! The left and right apples each mark a bit of treasure for you to find.

Each time you clear one of the tree’s paths, that blue apple disappears. Use these markers to track down two handy Artifacts: a Green Ring and a Strength Kickstarter.Like Badges in the Mario franchise, equipping these artifacts can give you a decisive edge.

Both of these may be useful when you receive a Red Apple later in the game. Put it on the warping tree, and a new location will appear with a capturable secret boss…
